I trade work for rent. How would I claim that?

You would consider this as bartering income, and report it on Schedule C.  With TurboTax open, type "Schedule C" in the Search box and then select the "Jump to" link to report this income.

The amount you report would be the fair market rental value of the place you lived in exchange for your services.
