I shared an investment/brokerage account with my boyfriend. We each own 50% of this account. How should I report my share of the gain and losses on Form 1099-B?

When you share an investment/brokerage account and each own 50%, you should report your share of the gains and losses on Form 1099-B as follows:

  1. Report 50% of the gains and losses shown on the Form 1099-B issued by the brokerage.
  2. On your your tax return, adjust the amounts reported on the Form 1099-B to reflect only your 50% share.
