If your name is on the title, you are the homeowner. It doesn't matter what the mortgage says.

As the homeowner, you are allowed to deduct mortgage interest and real estate taxes that you have paid. If someone else paid part of these expenses, you may only deduct your portion. See IRS Publication 936 for more information.
