How to enter state tax exclusions on investments?

I received a worksheet from my investment company indicating that VA has a state tax exclusions on my investment. You enter the total ordinary dividends from the 1099-DIV and it multiplies it by the US Government Factor to come up with an amount

In federal return, after you input your 1099B, there will be the next screen and a choice to report state income taxes were withheld on these dividends, check that, hit enter then enter amount and state.

after you input the 1099-Div, check the box "My form has info in more than just these boxes",  then the next screen will let you choose "State income taxes were withheld on these dividends  (box 12-14 on your 1099-Div), or any other adjustments to the dividends, the next screen lets you report them.

Are we sure that this info shouldn't be entered in 'A portion of these dividends is US interest'? My 1099-DIV does not have box 12-14 but they have a disclaimer that they intentionally omit those boxes.

If it is US Govt. bond interest, then enter it where you said. If it is taxes were withheld you enter it there. All adjustments get entered in this screen including nominee. US govt. interest is excluded from all states.  I was not aware that was what your were indicating.
