It automatic. Why do you want to change it? It will still use Schedule D if needed even it's it's not required to file the actual form.
I use the California Capital Loss Carryover Worksheet to figure out the Carryover to the next year and this asks for a few numbers from schedule d. Is there anther way to do this?

Think you're right; the schedule d was not needed to be sent to IRS, in this case, so it;s not in the"For Printing file, but can be found in "For Your Record" file
