Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

Do I need to file a 1099-S for my main residence that has no capital gains?

I have already filed, and I have just now received a 1099-S.

My understanding was that I would not receive one for the sale of a home that was my primary residence, and TurboTax never brought it up while filing, as there were no capital gains.

Do I need to amend, or just keep for records?

You should keep this for your records.

If you do hear from the IRS, you will have to respond and let them know the sale was for your personal residence and explain why it qualifies for the exemption.

If there is any uncertainty for you about whether you do qualify for the exemption, the article below will help clarify this for you.
