Can I remove the rent from my taxes and not claim it?

Rent that you received as a landlord?  You have to report all of your income.   Reporting your income is not optional.   

 

Rent that you paid to live somewhere?   You are not required to enter that.  In fact, there is no place to enter it on a federal tax return.  Rent credit is only available on certain state returns.
