Amendments in 2018 and 2019 outstanding-do I need to wait to file 2020

I submitted amendments to my 2018 and 2019 tax returns in February. Neither one has been processed. The changes I made are to report capital losses that I forgot about. A few hundred $ of losses from 2019 now carry over to 2020 but I am worried this will get flagged since they haven't processed the 2019 amendment yet.

Can I file my 2020 return now or do I need to file for an extension and submit it after the amendments are processed?

tech8848,

It would be perhaps best to file an extension and not only for this particular reason.  But be sure to pay enough with the extension form(s) to cover what you expect to owe. Extension means more time to send in paperwork, not more time to pay your taxes.  (I wish a few of my friends whom I help out during tax season would get that!)

Thanks! What would be the other reasons that you allude to for extending it?
