Stuck in Update Loop

I just completed my 2019 Federal and State taxes. When I went to transmit them, I received a message my version of Turbo Tax needed an update. I went to check for updates, the reply was that my version was updated. Hit transmit again, received the same message that I need an update. Stuck in an endless loop. What can I do to fix this?

    BIG FAIL Intuit. Haven't had such issue since your 2004 version of turbo tax fiasco with installation/licensing issue. But you managed to do it again in 2019. version. I have no state return since FL resident and wasted hours into this by applying update and uninstalls and reinstalls can not submit my federal return! Update say software is up to date, but efile wont submit until I update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It may be as simple as your State is not yet prepared to accept e-filing.  Try only filing the Federal return and see what happens.

    After trying to fix my state update in spending about 12 hours of nighttime I got a call back from TurboTax advisor and she had me upload the state download in an email third on my desktop I opened it downloaded it to my software and then and only then was I able to open my state of Illinois portion of my tax return completed and then file it without any other issues except I had already filed my federal return so it was a little confusing because the software wanted to file my federal and state at the same time electronically so I had to go back and deselect the federal portion that I had already filed electronically previously I have been working on this since January 29th just finally filed my state return on February 23rd

    Same issue with MA.  I finally figured it out through reading this forum, thank you, to simply e-file Fed separately from State.  Stuck in another annoying loop in online customer support.  Still have not solved MA state problem despite finally reaching a person from Intuit (downloading new MA state froze my computer). Will print and mail state tax form instead. Beyond frustrating.

    We do apologize for the issue that you continue to experience. Please click What is the TurboTax phone number and choose the version of TurboTax that you are using to connect with the correct agent. Let the agent know that you are having problems with a known issue and that you need for them to first push the federal download and then the state download.

    Colorado State e-File is still broken.  Please fix!

    Another Saturday (3/7/2020) and another attempt to e-File my Colorado state taxes.   TT did download program updates from 3/6/2020 and had to restart.   I was hopeful but turns out am still stuck in the exact same "there is an update available" loop while Online->Check for updates says I'm fully up-to-date.   The installed updates shows Colorado state is still 1/2/2020 "automated patch pushing".

    Please click State Loop indicates TurboTax is "up to date" after updating but won't allow you to Install your state return.

    I've been stuck in this program for days. Any time I try to "Review", I get the endless loop. I was just on the phone with them for hours. After trying three different browsers and re-booting, their answer is "there's nothing we can do." That's just unacceptable. In past years, it's been great. This year, it's a disaster.

    @mmagidow

    If it is a state update loop, please try the following procedure below

    State install/e-file update loop: state not installed after installation or TurboTax needs to update...

    If that is not the case, try Forcefully uninstall and reinstall TurboTax. Uninstall everything before reinstall. Delete all folders, not just uninstall software.These folders are usually hidden, to unhide them choose tools (at top of any folder) - then folder options - then view then check show hidden files, uncheck when done.

    I am happy to report my Colorado state e-File finally worked after forcible uninstall, reboot, reinstall (via CD) of TT 2019 Deluxe.   This worked:

    https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/installing/help/forcefully-uninstall-and-reinstall-turbotax/00/26003

    I had tried the TTStateClenup_TY19 cleanup tool multiple times but that never worked.  Neither did a normal uninstall / reinstall (via CD).   I had to follow the forcible uninstall instructions to manually delete directories related to TT 2019.  Please note a couple of the paths in the instructions need a bit of interpretation so be very careful.  The directories I deleted are shown below (  [Your username] needs updated to match your home dir )

    C:\Program Files (x86)\TurboTax\Deluxe 2019

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\TurboTax\TY19

    C:\ProgramData\Intuit\TurboTax\TY19

    C:\Users\[Your username]\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax\TY19

    Online -> View Installed Updates

    now shows for Colorado:   (Released 1/22/2020) Colorado

    This is different than the 1/2/2020 it has showed all along up to this point.

    This has been a very frustrating tax year due to this state update/loop issue.  Clearly there is a problem with the TT 2019 update software.  Intuit - you must do better next year if you want to retain customers.

    You posted this on an older thread.  Which TurboTax version are you using? You may need to do a manual update. See this for more information: What is a manual update?

    If you continue to have an issue please follow the instructions in this TurboTax FAQ to contact customer support:  What is the TurboTax phone number?

    I am trying to file my federal 2020 tax return. Turbotax says I have to apply an update. I have applied the update, restarted, and the message continues to show. I am posting here rather than start a new thread for the same issue. Can you help me

    If you are using Windows, to resolve the update loop you may want to try manually updating your software. Please see the below FAQ to assist with this:

    Manually Update TurboTax for Windows Software (Basic, Deluxe, Premier, Home & Business)

    Yup same thing happened to me, now it's doing the same thing with 2020 taxes.  Time to look for a different tax program
