In 2025 the Form 1040 added information in Line 5. My retirement plan does an After-Tax In-Plan ROTH Conversions and I get a 1099-R with this conversion. I entered the information from my 1099-R and it maps corectly to Line 5a. But, should Line 5c box 1 be checked for ROLLOVER? If yes, how do you make this happen?

In the topic of 529/1099Q, there appears to be an error on box 6 related to the recipient being the designated beneficiary.    The Step-by-step wording of 1099Q, box 6 is, "Is the recipient of the distribution the designated beneficiary?"   In the actual form1099Q, box 6, it is worded as, "Check if the recipient is NOT the designated beneficiary."    If I select YES on the Step-by-step question, then in the form the box is CHECKED.  If I select NO on the step-by-step, then in the form the box is UNCHECKED.     TurboTax is erroneously checking the box in the form opposite to what was indicated in the step-by-step.  I believe the confusion is due to the question in the step-by-step view having the opposite meaning of the question in form view (i.e., one has the word "NOT" and the other doesn't).    I just checked for updates, and I'm up-to-date! I need to know the proper way to resolve this.

I have traditionally used the TT desktop version to file my personal taxes along with a small business ownership. This year I think I might need to add expert assist. I am not finding any information on pricing for the desktop 2025 version, nor if it can be combined with Expert Assist.   Can someone fill me in?   Thanks, - Jim -

Hello, My husband is a minister who receives a W-2 from his full-time job at a religious organization. He has other income for weddings, funerals, training conferences, etc. that he performs as a self employed minister. Can he take the Self Employment Health Insurance (SEHI) deduction based on his self-employment income? I have googled this and am getting conflicting answers. Thank you.
It was deleted because the number of taxpayers that itemize has decreased.

You don't need to get around the "number of days" prompt in TurboTax, you should enter the actual number of nights the child stayed with you (even if it is less than 183) and then look for the follow-up question asking if you have a written agreement or Form 8332 from the custodial parent.    Because the IRS defines the custodial parent strictly by physical residency, entering 183 or more days when you are the noncustodial parent could incorrectly trigger credits you aren't eligible for, like the Earned Income Tax Credit, which often leads to an audit. Instead, by accurately reporting the lower number of days and selecting the option that the custodial parent is releasing the claim to you, TurboTax will correctly apply the Child Tax Credit to your return while generating the necessary Form 8453 to be mailed with the signed Form 8332.
The system is currently taxing the full distribution as regular income and doesn't offer anywhere to indicate the funds were used to pay student loans.

Yes, you would select 1099-R.   You must make sure that the marking (or not) of the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box on TurboTax's 1099-R form matches that of the form provided by the payer.  Since an IRA is not permitted to contain life insurance, a Form 1099-R for a distribution from a life insurance policy cannot have the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box marked.
