As a successful plaintiff in an FCRA lawsuit, the defendant provided an incorrect 1099-MISC to both me, and my attorney, for the full amount. When separating the attorney's fees out, Turbo Tax refuses to complete the 1040 SCH 1. It does not populate some fields on part two "Adjustments to Income, " 24h, 24z, 25, and 26 which causes rejection. A second call to customer service suggested I print and mail the return instead of filling electronically. Why pay Intuit $65 if I have to mail it anyway. The agent also suggested I pay to get expert help. If i wanted expert help, I wouldn't have purchased this software in the first place. I have been using this software since 1989. I won't use it again!

We do not have the information to determine the best filing status. It does take some time to create three tax returns by setting up three different accounts, on your part, in TurboTax Online. It 's important to check state rules if you file jointly or separately and whether you have that option on the state return because each state has their own rules.
Once you see the results from all of the tax returns, you can figure out which way to file based on the overall plus or minus results. The article below does provide great insight to help you. Review the gains or losses on separate returns because tax law does have penalties for choosing this filing status (credits, deductions, etc).
Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately: How should you and your spouse file taxes?
How do I switch from filing jointly to filing separately?
For TurboTax Desktop once you have your joint return completed you can open Forms, then search for 'What' and select the What-if Worksheet for a view of the difference between filing jointly or separately.

Wait until your federal and state returns are accepted by the authorities before considering an amendment. If you receive a Schedule K-1 in your name with taxable income for any tax year, that must be reported on your individual tax return regardless of the status of the trust. If you receive a K-1 for tax year 2025, that income must be added to your tax return that was already filed.
Whether the Trust issues a distribution of taxable income to you or is issuing its final distribution of taxable income in the closing year will depend on the status of the trust and its tax character; different rules can apply, for example, if the trust is a grantor trust, Subchapter S trust, or some other type. Is there more information you can provide about the trust type and its activities for the year?
Any excess capital losses reported to you above your $3,000/year limited will be carried forward to future tax years; until you report the capital loss carryforward, you will not be able to claim it against future gains. Instructions for filing an amended 1040-X:
What should I know before amending my return?
Here are some things to know before you begin:
Make sure you really need to amend.
Wait until your return has been accepted (or mailed if paper-filing).
Use the same TurboTax account you used to file your original return.
Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending. The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due.
Any changes you make to amend your federal return will automatically be transferred over to your state return.

Passing on my customer experience since there is nothing to be done after filing. I wasted my resources and would hate to see others expend useless energy. I processed my taxes 3 times through different services for accuracy and refund potential. Your service ended up not being able to deliver on what it promised. The only reason your services were used was the purported refund amount.

@user17719726928 wrote: I'm using a different solution next year. There is nothing like ItsDeductible with the possible exception of third-party solutions. The main issue currently is the lack of functionality; you can't currently import the data into TurboTax that you entered throughout the year. However, Intuit is working on a solution that would allow importing a common file format, CSV, into the program. No one is 100% certain when that new functionality will be ready and available. It could be ready before the end of this tax year or for the 2026 tax year (at the latest). Suggest taking a wait and see approach for the 2026 tax year since none of the other tax prep programs have that functionality either.

I submitted my amended 2025 tax return and the state return was accepted but the Federal Return shows rejected. There is a link that says review again but when I click on it nothing happens. I have done the federal review and there are no errors (there were no errors when I submitted it either). Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing... again the link that says "review again" does not work:

Each return needs its own email, account and user ID. If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, the second one overwrites the first return and it is lost forever.

If you have no Forms 1099-R to trigger TurboTax to ask about RMDs, it's almost impossible to get TurboTax to prepare Form 5329 Part IX. If you are using the desktop version of TurboTax, you could make the entries in forms mode and after doing so avoid going to the 1099-R section in step-by-step mode where TurboTax might erase your forms-mode entries. Otherwise, you might consider e-filing your tax return without a report of the late-taken RMD, then reporting the missed RMD by preparing and filing Form 5329 stand-alone with the request for waiver. The distribution itself is reportable on your 2026 tax return.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE:

How it works
Where's My Refund shows your refund status:
Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

You will be able to claim the credit for taxes paid to another state on your resident (New York) tax return. You can prepare your New Jersey nonresident return first, then Turbotax will be able to apply this to your New York return. You will need to report all your wages to New Jersey as a remote employee under the Convenience of the Employer rules.
