Because federal law treats alimony as non-deductible for 2019+ agreements, you must handle this through a California state adjustment:    Complete Federal Taxes: Proceed with your federal return (Form 1040) without claiming an alimony deduction.  Open CA Return: Navigate to the California state return section in your tax software.  Find Adjustments: Look for "Adjustments to Income" or "Alternative Cost of Living."  Enter Alimony Paid: Locate the section for Alimony Paid (often under "Less Common Scenarios" or specific Schedule CA adjustments).  Input Data: Enter the total amount paid in 2023 and the recipient's SSN.  Verify Adjustment: Your tax software should generate a deduction in the "Subtractions" column on Schedule CA (540), reducing your CA taxable income.

You don't need to amend your return.  You cannot be a dependent of yourself.  You are the taxpayer, and someone else that you support (not a spouse) can be a dependent.   If you need to amend for another reason, you will be able to amend once your original is processed.  Check your filing status to see when it is accepted and you have either received your refund or paid the tax due.  Then file an amended return if needed.   You can find more details here: TurboTax: Rules for Claiming a Dependent on Your Tax Return.
What error do you get on your State return?  What state are you in?  You can file your Federal return separately.  Check the state Info Worksheet.     @katemarie81
But do I need to go to each website and provide it or does Turbotax on my behalf?
I managed to resolve it myself but thank you for responding.

In your personal info section, edit your entries. If you were a student, the student information worksheet also lists enrollment status. If you need extra time, filing an extension by April 15, 2026, moves your submission deadline to October 15.  See if you need to file a state extension Any taxes owed are still due in full by the original April 15 date.  Pay through either Direct Pay or your individual online account. To set up a payment plan, see Find details on payment plan types
