I have an RMD from an inherited IRA which is showing up on form 5329, part III, line 11. I believe this is incorrect due to the fact that it is an inherited IRA, the excess contributions have nothing to do with the inherited IRA. I have searched and searched, cannot get the amount to not show up on form 5329. Any suggestions?

I have tried everything to get TT 2025 desktop to calculate the 8889-T correctly. I have delete the 8889 and my W2 several times yet TT will always automatically add $1000 to line 3 making it the max amount including catch up. The IRS rejected my return twice now because the $1000 MUST be on line 7 and not added to the amount on line 3. The line 3 worksheet says it should be $4300 but the actual line 3 shows $5300. So it is impossible to add any amount above that on line 7 because that would be above the yearly limit.   I have done the interview 5 times and single, no medicare, yes hcdp, self contributed 5300 (4300 + 1000), covered all year. The line 3 worksheet on the 8889 reflects all of this and correctly has $4300 BUT line 3 ends up as $5300.    If it were $4300 like it should be per the worksheet, then I could add $1000 on line 7 for a total of $5300. The IRS will continue to reject the return because the catchup contribution goes on line 7 which is 0. So it looks like I have overcontributed by $1000.    I have not idea why it is added $1000 out of the blue to the amount the worksheet calculates but it is totally messing up the calculation of what is the Maximum Allowable Contribution from the worksheet. The IRS will never accept $5300 because it $1000 over the limit before catch up (line 7)   This has to be a programming error. I have nothing anywhere that makes me ineligible to contribute the maximum amount plus the catch up.   What can I do?  I cannot efile with overrides which will fixed this because that is a automatic rejection.

According to the IRS Instructions for Schedule K-1 (Form 1041) Box 11, amounts reported on Form 1041 Schedule K-1 Box 11 Code B (non-miscellaneous itemized deductions) should be reported on the applicable line of Schedule A. Any excess not used in the current year cannot be carried forward to future years.   To enter these deductions in TurboTax, you will need to identify the non-miscellaneous deduction from the supplemental information provided with the K-1. Then review the IRS Instructions for Schedule A (Form 1040) to determine which line should be used. You can then select that topic under Deductions and Credits in TurboTax. No manual entries should be needed, nor should you need to upgrade.   For instance, if you are reporting state and local taxes, go to Federal >> Deductions & Credits >> Estimates and Other Taxes Paid >> Other Income Taxes >> Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099. Choose a state from the State withholdings drop-down and enter the amount from Box 11 Code B.   @DCO1

I agree completely with cdc7295.  My grandson's 1098T qualified education expense in block 1 is exactly the same amount as the 529 distribution reported for him on 1099Q, but when I entered information following the interview process Turbotax computed taxes on the earnings shown on 1099Q as if no qualified educational expenses had been paid.  Essentially, this part of Turbotax is flawed, unreliable, and misleading.  It needs to be corrected.
