It depends on  how long you held the asset when you report it as short-term or long-term.  If you had the asset for less than one year, you would report it as short-term.  If you had the asset for more than one year, it's long-term.   Refer to the TurboTax article A Guide to the Capital Gains Tax Rates: Short-term vs. Long-term Capital Gains Taxes for additional information.   As MinhT1 indicated earlier, if you didn't sell any of the shares, you don't report anything on your tax return.   You indicated that there is no option for how you received your investment.  How did you receive your investment?

So if her form 8889 has on line 13 $900 then that will be what we need to indicate that we are fixing this over payment from 2024?

This is creepy. My spouse is a naturalized citizen and I feel violated by this question. It's not just targeting hispanic last named people. it also seems to be targeting naturalized citizens. I am very upset. This is political, partisan and anti-American. It has only appeared since tRump has been in power.

Hello,   I just e-filed both returns yesterday and in looking through my AZ 140, I noticed line 29A only shows $2,500, when it should show $5,000.   My husband has a Federal pension. When entering his OPM CSA 1099R, I designated the pension as such on our federal return.   I have an Arizona State pension.  When entering my 1099R, I also designated the pension as such on our federal return.   Upon looking at our state return, Line 29a, it only shows $2,500, rather than $5,000 for us both to obtain our exclusions.  When I went back to the federal side, my husband’s taxable amount field was blank, and the exclusion was not listed.  I got out of the return and went back in and magically his taxable income appeared as well as the exclusion. When I went back to look at the state return, it now lists the correct $5,000 exclusion.   This is very irritating as now I have to amend my Arizona State tax return!!   QUESTIONS:   1. Why did TurboTax initially not catch the fact that this was designated as a Federal pension?   2. Why did it magically insert the figures upon opening the return again?   3. Since I just e-filed yesterday, when should I do the amended return?   4.  Will I be able to e-file my AZ amended return, or will I have to print everything out and mail it?   Thanks.

@DoninGA  Thanks for the reminders of the deadlines. This is not my first extension rodeo, just the first time TurboTax has fallen in a ditch so badly.  For other reasons not pertinent to this chat, I would prefer to have the extension on file.

@senhogan If you are receiving a federal tax refund on the 2025 federal tax return there is no reason to file an extension.  You have up to three years to file the 2025 federal tax return with a refund.  It can filed at any time on or before April 15, 2029 without penalty. However, to e-file the federal tax return using TurboTax you would need to e-file the federal return on or before October 15, 2026.  After that date the 2025 return can only be printed and mailed.
If you did not file a 2024 tax return for your LLC, you need to file one now, not an amendment.

If you own a home and you have paid your property taxes. The property taxes will be under the Provincial Tax Credits section. Once you are entered into that section, you will see the payments related to your Principal Residence, where you can particularly edit your property tax amount. Or else, you are in the real estate business and want to deduct your property tax as a rental expense. Go to the Rental Properties under the Income section. After you see the rental summary, you can click on edit, and you can change your property tax amount in the T776 Rental Expense section. This is how you can edit your property tax expense.   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Yeah.  This didn't work for me.  I needed to switch from online to desktop to access Form 5329.   It only looked at 2024 information and not the almost complete return I did for 2025.

Very sorry for your loss.   I am confused by your post.   You say "last year's" return was not filed----do you mean you did not file a 2024 tax return?   Did your spouse pass in 2024?    If he passed in 2024, you can file a joint return for 2024----but that return must be prepared using desktop download software and has to be filed by mail.   You cannot get an extension for 2024 now.       If you mean you want an extension for 2025, you can request it online: https://turbotax.intuit.com/irs-tax-extensions/     Please post back with more information so that we can be more helpful to you.
See this for how to e-file an extension request - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/extensions/help/can-irs-extensions-be-e-filed/01/25884?search-action-id=618206905798&search-result-uid=25884
Can I do it directly on the IRS site even if I'm getting a refund so no payment is due? I guess I could pay another $1 just to get the extension on file.
It asked for a RMD which I took out. Did donate some portion to charity. Calculating that I owe $33,000 more - just bad software. Can't see where the calculation is coming from
The field is MM/DD/YYYY - that is, four digits for the year.
