The deduction is based on your date of birth in My Info. So it is included.    You will only see the Standard or Itemized deduction on ‌line 12e of your tax return. However, the Senior Deduction is reflected on line 13b . Line 13b includes multiple deductions Senior deduction No tax on tips No tax on Overtime No tax on car loan interest. It is reflected on Schedule 1A, Part V, Line 37 There's a $6,000 deduction for individuals older than 65, and a $12,000 deduction would apply to couples who qualify.    For more information, see Deductions for Seniors.

Yes, that is correct.   Here is a chart that shows the exemption allowance.     The standard personal exemption is calculated using the basic exemption amount of $2,050 plus the cost-of-living adjustment.   If you (or your spouse if married filing jointly) were 65 or older and/or legally blind, the exemption allowance is an additional $1,000, whichever is applicable. (If you turned 65 at any point during the tax year, you may claim this exemption.) Please see the IL-1040 instructions for additional information.    Note: The Illinois exemption allowance is not allowed if a taxpayer’s federal adjusted gross income (AGI) exceeds $500,000 for returns with a federal filing status of married filing jointly, or $250,000 for all other returns.

Looking for guidance on reporting the sale of a former home converted to rental, and fixing a missed basis adjustment in TurboTax. Bought in 2001 for $350K (primary residence); converted to rental in 2014 Total depreciation: ~$113K Missed adding $100K renovation (2020) to basis Added another $150K renovation before sale Sold in 2025 for $800K; rented ~6 months in 2025 Questions: How do I add the missed 2020 renovation to basis now? Amend prior returns or adjust in year of sale? How to handle depreciation for that missed improvement? What land value should I use? Best way to enter in TurboTax? Any impact from partial rental use in 2025? Want to ensure basis, depreciation recapture, and gain are correct.

What state?   First, you need to be sure your state return was successfully filed.   If you efiled, be sure your efiled state return was accepted.  If you used Online TurboTax, you can check by looking at the Tax Home in your Online account.   Or did you choose to file by mail instead?  TurboTax does not mail it for you.  If you chose that method, you have to print, sign, date, and mail it.   The FAQ below tells how to check on a state refund.   When you scroll down further there, you will see a link for your state to get to its refund lookup tool.   Some state revenue department websites have a FAQ section or info on their refund lookup page that tells about how long it takes in that particular state.   FAQ:  How do I track my state refund? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...

In my case I had already bought a known good Deluxe copy with state return, uninstalled the apparently bad copy, and installed the good one.  However, I still could not complete the final step and file the state return.  And I noticed, BTW, that for some reason the new copy was using the bad copy's license, even though I had uninstalled the old one!! We finally resolved it by going to, I believe, "Help" in the menu at the top of the Turbotax window, found the selection something along the lines of "Install New Product" which opened a window to type in the license of the new, good copy.  I typed it in, went back to the return, and it suddenly worked.

If you made an excess contribution in 2025 and withdrew the 2025 excess Roth IRA contribution plus earnings in 2026 before the due date, then you will get a 2026 Form 1099-R in 2027 with codes P and J. Code P on a 2026 Form 1099-R means "Excess contributions plus earnings/excess deferrals (and/or earnings) taxable in 2025 or a previous year".   In the follow-up question you can select that this is a 2026 Form 1099-R which will tell TurboTax that it is taxable in 2025 because of the code P.   @user17759199618

Enter it in the Prizes, Awards and Gambling section - It is in the Less Common Income section (last income section).   TurboTax will first ask you for income on W-2Gs, you can answer NO there.   Then the next screen will ask about gambling income not on a W-2G - enter the amounts from your document there and the next screens will ask about losses.   Losses are only deductible if you itemize your deductions as opposed to taking the standard deduction.     Can I deduct my gambling losses?   Since you have a 1099-MISC for gambling income, keep detailed records since the income will not be labelled as 1099 income on your tax return.

To enter or correct your county in TurboTax, Start at My Info to update your resident address,  If the ZIP code is pulling the wrong county, double-check the state-ZIP combination.  Having the wrong county in TurboTax will not matter if you are taking the standard deduction. However, it may affect local or state tax calculations

I think I found the answer.  Grok claims there is phase out rule concerning Illinois state income tax exemptions.   The Illinois state personal exemption (also called the exemption allowance) for tax year 2026 is $2,925 per person ($ 5,850 for Married Filing Jointly.   Phase-out rule: You cannot claim the exemption (or it is reduced/limited) if your federal adjusted gross income (AGI) exceeds: $250,000 for single, head of household, married filing separately, or widowed filers. $500,000 for married filing jointly.
