Thanks for your huge help!   Still have confusion about Line 78. I understand I need to write "IRC 1341 $1000 on the dotted line), but how do I physically add the $1000 to the total payment? Creating an entry on the estimated payment? or manual overwrite? Or there is another way that I totally missed??   Thanks again for your help!!

@dylanwinn39  once the return has been "accepted" by the IRS for processing, it is generally between the filer (you ) and the IRS.  Please consider contacting IRS.   If the return was sent  in time, then IRS probably sent you a notice by mail and awaiting your response.  In any case, please consider visiting the IRS local/nearest office -- they should be able to help you as to what is the next step.

I was able to bring up my 2024 return into the 2025 program on my Mac, though it didn't show up in the list of returns to bring over in TurboTax - I had to search for it in Finder and drag it into the TurboTax window to select it. However, once I did that everything was there.   Is it possible you selected an older unfinished version of 2024 to bring up in the 2025 program? or that the one you wanted to select had been overwritten?   On a Mac, you may be able to recover an overwritten TurboTax file by using Time Machine backups or the "Revert To" feature in the Finder. If no local backup exists, you cannot recover the file from TurboTax directly.   Here are some options to try:   Time Machine Backup: If you use Time Machine, open the folder where the file was stored, open Time Machine from the menu bar, and go back to a time before you saved the blank form to restore the older version. "Revert To" (If the file is still open): In TurboTax, check File > Revert To to see if a previous save point is available. Search for File Backups: Search your Mac for files ending in .tax or .tax202X to see if a backup was automatically created. Check Email/Downloads: If you filed, you likely saved a PDF version during the filing process. Check your Downloads folder or email for the completed return.  Use Prior Year File: If the current year return you were working on can't be restored, and you have the previous year's .tax file, you can import that data to help rebuild the current return.    See also this help article for troubleshooting issues for TurboTax with Mac.

Thanks for the feedback!  I went through and confirmed that I needed to add a vehicle in other expenses, so it isn't there anymore.  I'm asking because as it reviews my return, it keeps asking me about details for my vehicle that it's missing.  I believe I tried to add it last year for 2024, but I decided to not use it.  It must have saved some of those details.  I went through to the end and it isn't asking me questions about my vehicle any more.  It was confusing.

For a nontaxable Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), there is typically nothing to enter in TurboTax Online. Because these funds are employer-provided and already tax-free, they do not qualify for a deduction and are not reported as income.

I do not like to be forced to buy a Windows 11 computer when my desktop is working well.  This is a class action lawsuit for all of us to companies who uses their big name like Microsoft forcing millions of people to buy new computers.  This is not good for all of us who does not need to spend this kind of money.  I am one of you who does not like this at all.  I would not have bought this TurboTax CD if I have known about this issue.

Please clarify whether your contributions to the HSA were reported on your W-2 or if they were entered separately.     Also, if you would be willing to share a diagnostic copy of your tax data file it could be helpful to take a closer look and see what might be happening with your return.  The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.     To provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number in a follow-up thread.   If you are using a Windows CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:   Select Online at the top of the screen. Select Send Tax File to Agent. Click OK. Post the token number here.   If you are using a Mac version of TurboTax, use these steps:   Go to the Menu at the top of the screen and select Help. Then, Send Tax File to Agent. Post the token number here.

You have the right to disagree with the notice from your state and send them a notice response letter asking for abatement.    Note: Generally, you should pay the additional tax first, and then request a refund with your written response.   If you have more specific questions about your state tax return items and amounts that are in question, you can ask those questions here on the Community; then, myself and others can help you work through those details.   You also have certain options for audit defense with TurboTax stemming from your purchase. @Eli_R .   assuming that you are both US persons ( citizen/GreenCard ) , Foreign Tax-home, have foreign earned / self-employment income and filing MFJ, it would be difficult to have one filer use FEIE and the other use FTC.  How do you then distribute all the deductions/ credits etc. between the two essentially independent streams -- I say this because there are  credits and deductions that are not available when  income is excluded.  There  is nothing in the way when one spouse is  US based with a W-2  /  1099-NEC and the other spouse is  Foreign with FEIE  or both spouse  use  FEIE  or FTC. Suggest you use  MFS and thereby be able to use FTC and/ or  FEIE per your  individual pref./ need.   Does  this make sense ? Is there more I can do for you ?

If you accidentally triggered a "Yes" answer, TurboTax may have generated Form 8938 (Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets). Even if you change your answer to "No," the form may remain in the background.  Follow these steps to Delete a Form:   Open your return and select Tax Tools from the left-hand menu. Select Tools from the dropdown. In the pop-up "Tool Center" window, click Delete a form. Find the specific form in the list and click Delete next to it. Confirm the deletion on the next screen and then select Continue with My Return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen Click on Tools Click on Topic Search Type in 6781and enter.  On the result click on GO.

No, you enter your federal credit amount ($5,000) for Schedule CA (540), Part II, Line 16, Column B.  Because you took a federal credit, the IRS considers that a "deduction" you've already received for tax purposes. To prevent double-counting this benefit on your California return, you must "subtract" that federal benefit from your CA itemized deductions because TurboTax will transfer the amount from the federal return.   For the Form 540, Line 78 (Total Payments), you need to ADD your calculated $1,000 CA credit to the other payments (like your W-2 withholding) already on that line.  In most cases, this would be added as an Estimated Tax Payment, but in this specific case, that would cause a circular problem: TurboTax would add the estimated tax payment (like the credit above) then you would have to re- subtract- this is the best way to get around the TurboTax calculation (and once again, this is an extremely rare case where this would happen).   Please let me know if you need more clarification!  @GreenApple123
