@Vanessa A @sureshbk Why do they need to amend the state return? What state are you in? I don’t think you need to amend state. Most states do not tax Social Security and subtract any taxable amount from the federal AGI. So if there was no amount on 1040 line 6b there’s nothing to subtract on the state return. And if you amend to change the Foreign Country question to no so it calculates the right taxable amount on federal 1040 line 6b the state return will just subtract it from the new federal AGI which won’t change the state return. The state will be starting with the same federal AGI as before.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

So when you see the numbers from your SSA-1099, on the next screen you do not see that question?
Yes. If you go to forms mode and go to the Social Sec worksheet, you will see at the top it says Check this box if taxpayer and or spouse is US Citizen is a resident of Canada, Egypt...etc On your return those boxes are checked.
As for the state...yes. You will need to amend that return. The amount will set to $0 and because you received a refund, you will likely see an amount due. When you first hit amend, you will see all your numbers set to $0, then when you take the check mark out of the box on the social security worksheet, you will see an amount that you owe. This will be paying back some of your refund that you would not have received if you the social security income would have been included. When you send in the return, it can be done electronically, you should be able to add the payment with it.

All IRA Contributions I made are non-deductible - From after-tax dollars earned ONLY. 2024 Roth contribution $7k 2025 Recharacterization from Roth to Traditional on 3/11/2026 - $6,907.68 (Original contribution $7k - loss) 2026 Recharacterization from Roth to Traditional on 3/11/2026 - $6,866.66 (Original contribution $7k - loss) Contribute $500 to a Traditional IRA 3/27/26 (To reach max limit $7,500 Traditional IRA for 2026) Backdoor Roth IRA conversion of the full balance (around $14,274) of the Traditional IRA (2025 and 2026 contributions) on 4/12/26 - $0 balance on the Traditional IRA currently Roth Conversion made in 2026, I will report it on the 2026 tax form when I get the 2026 Form 1099-R. 2024 Form 8606 - this would be wrong? All $7,000 was into Roth IRA only Line 1 - $7,000 Line 3 - $7,000 Line 14 - $7,000 Would this 2025 Form 8606 be correct? 2025 Form 8606 Line 1 - $7,000 Line 3 - $7,000 Line 14 - $7,000 The 2026 Form 8606 would be more complicated due to the Backdoor Roth Line 1 - $7,500 Line 2 - $7,000 Line 3 - $14,500 Unsure what line 4-25 would be?

Vannesa, I don't see a entry like you are saying. If I open the TurboTAX on my submitted return and look for the SSA, i don't see such a dialog when I walkthrough that again. Don't see that. Can I see such a entry in the "Forms in my Return". I am confused. I have been using Turbo Tax for almost 20 years and never got into this situation. Now I have to send a revised/amended return to the State. If I have to do that, should I start the amended return to both Federal and State? In the State Return, will that ask for the currently paid State Tax and take the rest out? How to do that? Suresh

Si el IRS no puede depositar su cheque, le enviará un cheque o una carta preguntándole si tiene otra cuenta.

No. If you used the online program it is one return per account.
To do multiple returns you need to use the desktop version. You can e-file up to fiver returns with the desktop version.
