Perhaps the asset does not qualify for the section 179 depreciation. This TurboTax Help states:
The Section 179 deduction cannot be claimed for business assets that were acquired in a tax-free exchange or from a person or entity with whom you share a close relationship as specified by the IRS.
You cannot claim a Section 179 deduction for more than $2,500,000 in qualified assets. The deduction is reduced if the total of all Section 179 assets you placed in service during the tax year exceeds $4,000,000.
Your Section 179 deduction amount cannot exceed your net business income for the year, but if it does, you can carry the excess over to a future tax year.

The brokerage company doesn't have the date acquired or basis information on this transaction, so you may have to retrieve it on your own. If you don't have this info or don't know how to get it, consider entering "various" in the date acquired field and enter zero as your cost basis. You will be taxed on the entire amount of the proceeds, though. So if it's a large amount, then I recommend you do some digging to get your basis on that sale. If it's a small amount with little tax effect, you can just opt to leave it as is to streamline your tax return prep time.

I came across a problem in the desktop version of TurboTax. It's a minor issue, and I've worked around it, but I thought you'd like to know. However, the website is so terribly designed, I can't figure out how to do it. It keeps trying to get me to file taxes online, which has nothing to do with what I'm trying to accomplish. The closest I could get to providing feedback is posting here, and it wasn't easy to get here either. Anyway, I was trying to get some info from last year's return. I clicked "learn more", and a pop-up told me to click on "Documents" in the left menu. There was no "left menu", and none of the menus at the top had a "Documents" item. Maybe I'm blind, but could you point out what it's referring to?

The desktop interview continues with the following question: Did KEN recharacterize any of the traditional IRA contributions for 2025 over to a Roth IRA contribution? I intend to do that with the non-deductible contribution before 4/15 so should I check YES? Or does this question pertain to only those recharacterizations that I have a 1099 in hand at this time? So, since I do not have a1099 yet, I need to check NO and the deal with the taxes associated with a recharacterization next year for my 2026 return? Thanks!

Maryland and DC have a tax reciprocity agreement, so you will need to file both MD and DC tax returns to get your son's money back.
He must file a Maryland return to get a full refund of those withholdings (Maryland Form 505 Nonresident Income Tax Return).
Since he lived in DC for part of the year (DC Form D-40 Part-Year Resident), he owes DC taxes on all income earned while he was a resident there (including money he earned working in Maryland);.
And since Florida has no state income tax, he does not need to file a Florida state return.
Open or continue your return.
Under Personal Info section, Enter your current state of residence (FL), but that you also lived in DC (you will need the date that you moved to FL).
Complete the Federal return entirely. (Add DC and Maryland state tax returns, if not already added.)
Prepare the Nonresident tax return first (MD)... then the DC part-year resident return (the program will ask for the dates he lived there. Make sure you only include the income earned during that window). The home state (resident) usually taxes all your income, but provides a credit for taxes paid to the nonresident state.
When doing the Maryland nonresident return, look for a screen that asks about Reciprocal States (select that he was a resident of DC).

My father owns a rental property and does not need all the income, and would like split the rental income 50/50. On his end, he is willing to pay the expenses of property tax and insurance, but he wants to split the federal tax burden appropriately. We are trying to figure out the best way to do this. Our idea is to get two 1099's, one for each of us, by asking the property management company to pay him for the first six months of the year, and me for the second six months. That way we would each get two 1099's and file taxes accordingly. The management company sends a clean year-end report summarizing expenses by month so we would just file the expenses incurred in our given six months accordingly. The only question I have with this plan is that I have no ownership in the property. Can I claim rental income, as above, even though I don't own the property? Will anything here constitute a flag for audits from the IRS?

If you pay an IRS or state penalty or interest because of a TurboTax calculation error, TurboTax will pay you the penalty and interest. Limitations apply. See Terms of Service for details.

@kbtoys06 Just solved it today and managed to e-file my taxes. In my case, electronic & paper routing number I pulled form BofA mobile app was not working. I believe that was valid number, but for some reason it was is not accepted in Turbotax. What you can do is to login to BofA in your computer and check electronic only routing number. This one is not matching electronic & paper in mobile app. Also you can drop by your local branch to be 100% sure and check with them since calling bank customer support is dead end as always. Good luck!
