The same thing happened to me. I'll have to dispute it with my bank as well.
Only he needs to sign his return.

Yes, you are required to include Form 1099-C on your tax return. The IRS generally treats canceled debt reported on this form as taxable income, unless you qualify to exclude part or all of it. (It doesn't matter that you are in a debt relief program).   You can enter your Form 1099-C and you can complete the cancelled debt worksheet to determine if you are able to exclude all or part of your cancelled debt.   For instructions to enter Form 1099-C, review How do I enter a 1099-C?   Refer to TurboTax article How do I report excludable (non-taxable) canceled debt? for instructions to include Form 982 in your tax return.

@in2deep101attnet is there a question?    Since you are married, you always have the choice to file "jointly" or "separately".   How you live your lives (same home or separate homes) has no bearing on the matter.     what has bearing is whether or not you two are willing to sign the same tax return (JOINT) or not (SEPARATE).

It's been a couple of days and no one has responded. I'm going to assume this is a bug in Turbotax. I expected someone from Intuit would chime in, but nope.
Only input the name of the bank or fiduciary and the amount of interest.  Ignore the other boxes.
fyi online does not have Forms mode. all entries must be made using the interview mode. any direct entry on a 1040 Form or Schedule will prevent e-filing.

Hi, I need help with the error below on my CA Schedule E Worksheet - it's related to a fence replacement I did for my WA rental property.   When I add in a fence replacement item (which I purchased and put in place on 1/31/2025) into my Federal Tax returns and select the Special Depreciation Allowance (under the One Big Beautiful Bill) to recognize 100% of the costs for 2025, I run into the issue below when Turbo Tax ran the check over my CA State returns.   What is wrong with the below and what I should change it to?   It should not have an impact on the CA State tax I pay because this rental property is based out of Washington State.   However I don't want to leave this error unaddressed when I submit by CA Tax returns.  How do I correct the error in this CA Schedule E Worksheet?   Thanks, Alvin
I'm married  but we live separately full time in separate home we each own and were filing jointly

Once your tax return is accepted, the IRS and the state department of revenue takes over processing, and TurboTax doesn't have any more information to provide.     Accepted means that the IRS received your tax return and has passed initial screening.  It doesn’t mean that it was processed or approved. Your tax return may have been flagged for a review.   Refer to the IRS website Refunds for more information about your IRS refund and the TurboTax article What does Accepted mean?    Refer to the TurboTax article What if my federal refund is taking longer than 21 days? To enter Federal or State Estimated Taxes Paid, including a state estimated payment made in January for the prior year, go to Federal on left or at top (Personal for Home & Business) Deductions and Credits Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid Estimates - click the Start or Update button When you click in the left column tab for Deductions & Credits, it may take you to a page called "Your Tax Breaks. Lower on that same screen should be a button or link for "Add more tax breaks" or "Show more tax breaks" or similar wording. When clicked, then the screen should expand, and all the deduction topics are displayed including "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid." Then that topic can be expanded further to get the subtopic Estimated Tax Payments.

The online version of Turbotax premium does not let me open the 1040 form and enter the extra payment that I made to IRS in Dec 2025
The AI answer is that I'm starting my 2025 taxes too early. However I am in April and it won't allow me to add information (income and expenses).
