There is a known (reported to developers) user interface quirk in the 2025 versions of TurboTax where the "Deductions & Credits" summary page has been showing a sales tax number, even if it isn't being used for your actual return. Along with this, there have been instances where the user interface shows that the standard deduction was chose, but the actual tax forms show itemized deductions if greater. To see what is actually happening:
Online: Go to Tax Tools > Tools > View Tax Summary > Preview my 1040. Look at Schedule A, Line 5.
Desktop: Just switch to Forms Mode.
Check your Form 1040, Line 12e to see whether your return has the standard deduction for your filing status, or a larger amount for itemized deductions. The itemized deductions appear on Schedule A.
From the list of Forms shown on the left of the Forms screen, or the Preview of your tax return, find Schedule A. There, you can see which items are included in the total for Taxes You Paid, and whether you get the benefit of itemizing your deductions.
See this TurboTax tips article for more information about Schedule A and itemizing your deductions.
