Hi, really bad mistake on my part. I was having difficulty getting my Ira basis entered for my Ira to Roth conversion for form 8606 since there is no actual form to see when your going through the question/answer stuff. Someone here was very helpful and I was able to get it entered. I looked over the prepared forms, they looked ok, so I filed 3/31/26. However I neglected to notice that the generated 8606 form did not have an entry for line 6 "Enter the value of all your traditional IRAs as of December 31, 2025, plus any outstanding rollovers. Subtract certain 2025 retirement plan distribution repayments treated as rollovers, if any. See instructions" I don't remember even getting a question about entering them.  Anyway I did the calculations over by hand yesterday and my basis is actually about $150 less than the basis I had entered which showed up on line 2 of the form. Is there anyway for me to submit the correction and is there a big penalty for this error?  (And also because of the omission my basis going forward for 2026 is going to be incorrect).  I'm actually getting a refund of a couple of thousand dollars.  This is my first time ever doing an e-filing and of course I've made a dumb mistake. Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks Dave

Thank you so much! Yes, I have been googling and read that I can still file jointly. He died in July 2025. Thank you so much for the info you sent. I will probably need to hire a professional to help me file.  We both have been using Turbo Tax for the last several years. Not sure I can navigate this year's return by myself. I think Turbo Tax has experts that can help though. Will check into it. In the meantime, I was approved for an extension.   Again thank you, I appreciate your responding!   Very best,   Teri

There does not appear to be any method to update the IT 40 Schedule 7 form with a name. Address and phone were able to be loaded.

I have been using turbotax premium for many years.  Today, after I paid over $430 to cover all the options and I got the choice to pay by federal refund or by credit card where I chose to pay by credit card, at the very end, a page popped up to agree to get federal refund 5 days early. There was absolutely NO statement that this would cost another $35 and that I had the choice to deduct from Federal refund or use credit card.  The fee was embedded in legal terms and conditions, which although I clicked, missed it because after spending many hours to prepare tax and paying that much just few minutes prior to this screen, I did not think there is such an under the belt hit job.  Called for an expert and a lady came on phone, reviewed the screen and kept arguing that I already paid for and no refund. I told that I was not asking for refund for payment made using my credit card. But for this extra $35, the screen showed it would be taken out of my federal refund to which I did not specifically agree when I made payment and this did not pop up in the previous screen. However, Turbo Tax played magician and that screen did not come back again.  The lady told me I agreed to Credit Karma which is different company. This absolutely unfair cheating by turbotax and she was not willing to do anything for me to cancel this option (which I told her that once tax filing is done, I would agree by  default).  So, for all the tax prep, your back button works but this sleek under-the-belt- hit by turbotax is despicable. Bye Bye turbo tax for good.
I am not sure if turbotax is using the info I inputted for amount of time my home was a rental(aprox 4 months), or if I need to calculate that myself.

Very sorry for your loss.   You do not say when your spouse passed away.   Was it in 2025?    For the year that your spouse died, you can still file a joint return.  That way, you will get the married filing jointly standard deduction of $31,500 (+ $1600 for each spouse 65 or older) which will lower the amount of income you are taxed on.   In My Info, you will need to indicate that your spouse died. When his name is in My Info,  there is a screen early in the interview that asks "Do any of these apply to [name] ?’” where you will do that, and then a drop down will appear where you can enter the date he passed. If you have qualifying dependent children you will be able to file as a qualifying surviving spouse  (QSS) for the next two years after this tax return.  Post back if you need further help.     https://accountants.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/tax-filing-status/claiming-qualified-surviving-spouse-filing-status/L7al83jU1_US_en_US   LIVE ASSISTED https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/live/how-it-works.htm

I'm trying to report sales of stocks that I acquired through my Employee Stock Purchase Plan. The UI for doing this on TurboTax appears to be so awful as to not actually support this. I have dozens of lots sold, many of which are simply marked on my 1099-B as being acquired on date "VARIOUS". When I click into one of the stock purchase line items, it asks me question by question and then asks me to re-enter information that it had on the first page but it won't show it to me again!   Why can't TurboTax show something like a spreadsheet view to work out all of this? Isn't that what the actual tax form has? Only asking question by question makes it impossible to consult back and forth in the TurboTax UI to make sure I'm not double counting or entering the wrong row's info. It also doesn't appear to let me just override the whole thing and just enter the final result that I want. It makes me enter every box manually so it's really truly less than useful. I might have to completely ditch TurboTax this year because of this which I am very not happy about since I already completed the other sections.   Does TurboTax Desktop have any better UI for this? Can I continue a partial tax report from the web by importing into the desktop app?
Thanks for confirming this. Yes, IRA and not Roth was / is selected.  Pointing to those specific lines helps clarify this.

I have a multi-state K-1 that includes Federal, New York and New Jersey K-1.  Both the NJ and Federal modules allow for entry of the K-1 fields directly.  With NY State, there is no way to enter the fields in the IT-204-IP.  (I also entered my NY state personal information at least a dozen times and it didn't save it)   What's the deal?  I also paid the extra $50 to get phone support and spent 1.5 hours on the phone with a very nice lady who had no idea how to help me.   Why doesn't the NY K-1 module work like the NJ K-1 module?   I think my 25 year run of using Turbotax ends in 2025.
