The solve is the phone number in your personal information on the first page must be filled out.  Though it is a grayed "soft" field, meaning not required, it is a hard field in code, meaning you must fill it out.  Otherwise, the placeholder [phone number removed] is the phone number. TT is tying your return to thousands of other filers who didn't fill out their number too.   The software engineers need to go back and make it a hard field, meaning you can't move on until you fill it out.  For 20 plus years of filing my returns, you were not required to put your phone number in there, and the IRS will never call you because of all the fraud and discouragement from providing phone numbers.   2 years  (last year I spent about 8 hours they never figured and this year 2 and 1000"s of pissed off customers on every review site, including Google and reddit and I figured it out with a customer service rep who is saying it's the license even though the return is done, and the hang up was with the transmission!!

My wife's mother died in May, 2025 and the estate sold her condominium upon her death.   Each of five children received one fifth of the sale proceeds.  The executor's attorney provided an identical 1099-S for each child.   The 1099-S my wife received is from Chicago Title Company, LLC and box 1 shows Gross Proceeds of $27,000.  Box 6 (Buyer's part of real estate tax = $2.42).  There is no 1099-B.  Even though the Gross Proceeds were $27,000.00 the NET Check she received was for $23,603.84.  I believe this is not taxable but I'm unclear of how to enter this into TurboTax.  We are using the 2025 download version of Intuit turbotax from Home & Business.   Appreciate your assistance.

@ carterfacts  wrote:  "Can someone please help me file my 2022 tax return because I forgot to file I got notification from IRS saying I need to file my 2023 taxes."   That's confusing since you mentioned 2 years:  2022 and 2023.   Do you need to prepare both 2022 and 2023 returns from scratch?    This answer will assume you meant 2 years.  If you only meant one, then just buy one software program for the year you need.   At this point in time, if you want to use TurboTax to prepare those 2 years, then you would have to use desktop software programs for 2022 and 2023.   You cannot prepare them online with TurboTax.  The 2022 and 2023 returns cannot be efiled.  They will have to be printed, signed, dated, and mailed to the IRS.   Do not mail them in the same envelope.  Mail them separately.  It's recommended to mail with  a method that has tracking.   If you have state returns, they would also have to be mailed separately to the state tax agency   You should prepare the 2022 return first, then you can transfer the data file into the 2023 return.  You can purchase 2022 and 2023 software programs directly from TurboTax at the page linked below.  Be sure you choose the correct tax years. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

Are you able to log in?   If you can't, we can tell you how to regain access.   If you can still log in, here's how you can update your phone number, the notification email address, and even User ID, if desired.   Log in to Online TurboTax and in the left menu column scroll way down to the tab Intuit Account. Once in the account settings choose the tab Sign In & Security. TIP:  If you change your notification email address there, it will likely then have a tiny tag that says "unverified."  Go ahead and click that tag to verify.

Hello, I am a Portuguese citizen, resident in switzerland on a B-permit, moving to the US for 2 years on a J1 on a EU-funded postdoctoral fellowship (MSCA). During the fellowship my contract and income will be through an Italian institution. I am moving directly from Switzerland to the US, and after the US phase to Italy.   As I understand, during the US phase, I will be a - non-resident allien in the US - a non-resident but potentially taxable in Italy - my swiss residency may cease. I wonder if I can claim a tax treaty to avoid double taxation in the US, and if so, which one? From my understanding the Swiss-US tax treaty could cover me even if I lose swiss residency, as it mentions:"Payments which a student, apprentice, or business trainee, who is or was immediately before visiting a Contracting State a resident of the other Contracting State, and who is present in the first-mentioned State for the purpose of his full-time education or training, receives for the purpose of his maintenance, education or training shall not be taxed in that State provided that such payments arise from sources outside that State" On the other hand, I am unsure whether the Italy-US tax treaty could be evoked. Although there is a clause for researchers and professors, from my understanding, it is only valid for people who are considered residents in either one or both countries.   Would highly appreciate any help!!   Best, Guilherme Almeida

MarilynG1, I did exactly as directed...deleted the form, started over with the section, skipped Review tab and went straight to File but when I went to View Returns to double-check my name,ss # as suggested in the File process the form still incorrectly translates my user interface responses..my husband even did an attempt and tt still erroneously codes our responses from Yes to No..all the issues we spoke about are still present.

No one can know.  It's highly variable.  But we can tell you how to check on it.   Some states are fairly quick with refunds, while other states can take a long time processing returns--even several weeks--as they crack down on detecting fraudulent returns.     Here are some things you should check:   First, you need to be sure your state return was successfully filed.   If you efiled, be sure your efiled state return was accepted.  If you used Online TurboTax, you can check by looking at the Tax Home in your Online account.   Or did you choose to file by mail instead?  TurboTax does not mail it for you.  If you chose that method, you have to print, sign, date, and mail it.   The FAQ below tells how to check on a state refund.   When you scroll down further there, you will see a link for your state.   FAQ:  How do I track my state refund? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...

Order numbers won't be useful here in the user community forum.  Nothing account-specific can be handled here.   This is not a direct route to TurboTax Support.   However, we can tell you what you are experiencing.   Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you read that made you think that 1 state efile was free.  In the desktop software, all efiled state returns have a state efile fee except for New York state.   Your first state efile was $15 because of the $10 special discount offer in the Costco product.   The second state efile would be $25.   If you bought a TurboTax program that also has a state program, it is 1 state program that is included.  But state efiles have a fee (except no state efile fee for New York.)  Click to expand this image: .
