Q. Will I technically "qualify" for the education assistance credits (Lifetime Learning Credit*) and receive a sizeable refund, but then deal with the tax consequences later?
A. No. Since you know it's covered by tax free benefits, the timing of the reimbursement does not create a loop hole. This situation is specifically covered in Publication 970.
Q. Will I just have to owe the taxes on the excess tuition reimbursement I receive in 2029?
A. No, as long as it's reported in box 14, not box 1 of your W-2. Box 14 is only informational. TT does not enter it as income.
Q. Do I report the tuition assistance in 2025.
A. You don't report or enter it, in TurboTax. But you do treat it as received for purposes of the 1098-T.

Hi, This solution isn't working for me to view my extension -- the system is re-routing me to input all my federal return information before I can view the PDF of the extension where the replier said I could view the scheduled payment. Are there other ways to view the scheduled payment that do not involve submitting the rest of my return?

Yes, you can.

Going through final review and have tons of items flagged by TT. It takes me to a form Capital Asset Sales Worksheet. The stupid thing is a small window and you can't even see the entire issue being flagged. No guidance or legend for codes...it is prompting me to put a code but there is no legend. All my stock sales were short-term and I don't have the cost basis for items flagged and the brokerage is not helpful at all. There is so much real estate available on the screen but why on earth they (Turbo Tax Team) not utilize it. Do they even check the product they are rolling out? Any answers that will fix the issue are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am filing my return and a question that has been confusing me is if I received any tips. I previously worked a retail job from 2024-2025 where I was occasionally given cash tips from customers (even though that technically goes against our policy). I wasn't sure of the exact amount of these, they weren't a lot, and these weren't reported to management/accounted for, so I'm not sure if I should report these when filing, if I should, how. Also, would I need to make amendments to my 2024 return? I did not report them then, but I am not sure if I should change it. Thank you.

If they report the net rent on form 1099-MISC, you can enter that amount on your tax return as Rent income.
Reporting the Gross rent then deducting the commission will give the same tax outcome.
