The exemption is typically applied automatically based on your age and the source of income.   The deduction may not appear on the main summary page immediately. To find it, go to Tax Tools > Tools > View Tax Summary. On the Alabama tax summary, look for the "Additional Deductions" line or Schedule 1-A. In the actual forms (Form 40), the exemption is processed through Schedule RS, where Line 10 specifically asks if the taxpayer is 65+ to apply the $6,000 exclusion.

I am using the desktop version. I have already updated all components (including TurboTax, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and the system), and reverified today. I am still getting the same error when attempting to view the TC-40 page of the PDF created by TurboTax. I have moved the PDF file to another PC (also with the latest Acrobat Reader and system), and the same problem occurs when attempting to view the same page. Other pages in the PDF file can be viewed without getting the error.

The IRS has been known to issue refunds through paper check this year. It's unclear what makes the decision when they send notice for bank deposit information.  To be prepared, should you be one where a notice is received, here are the details.   The CP53E  is an IRS notice that informs you that your tax refund is frozen   because your return does not include a valid direct deposit Bank on your 2025 Form 1040.    When you receive the CP53E notice, you have 30 days to update or add a new bank account. You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

When you begin amending your return, you will see the original return, the refund calculator will start new at $0 and will only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due. The state showing $0 could also mean that the changes you made on your return have not caused a change to your state return.     You should not amend your return before your original return is processed, it will cause delays in refunds.  Sometimes the IRS or state will not process the return before the original return is processes.     Does amending my return affect my refund? Can I e-file my amended state return? How do I amend my state tax return?

I’m experiencing the same issue. All of my information matches what’s on the CRA website, but I’m still unable to file.   I’ve also been using TurboTax for years and rolled forward my information from last year’s return, as nothing has changed. Despite this, I’m encountering an N1 error. It seems there are some issued with TurboTax!

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities,  There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.  Some states process returns quickly and some are very slow.   STATE RETURN Make sure your state return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   To track your state refund:       ttps://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0

Well, this is not going to be very helpful to anyone else, but I did want to follow back up from my prior post a couple of hours ago. After I posted that message, I ended up just shutting down the laptop and went off doing other things around the house for awhile, then around 10 minutes ago decided to boot back up and give it another try, just to see.   This time, launching the TurboTax 2025 software presented me with the same login prompt on the path to activation, but after I entered my email address, this time it did not prompt me with a captcha. It gave me the option to enter my intuit.com account password or send a code to my phone; I opted to have a code sent to my phone, which immediately came in. I entered the code, and then it wanted to send me another code (again, just to make sure it's me) to my email account. That code came in, I entered it, and then it prompted me to change my password (mind you, I had just changed my password a few hours ago, and changing it via the TurboTax 2025 software only asked me to enter the password ONCE, not twice to confirm I typed it correctly like usual, not sure what's up with that), but after that, I was able to enter my activation code and now it is operating as expected. Still a pretty daunting login process though.   I've no idea what changed between now and a couple of hours ago, in all honesty; could be any number of things I suppose. Maybe all of my captcha attempts locked my account in some way and I needed to wait until the lock expired; not really sure. I'm just glad it is over (for now, anyway). We will see what happens when we go to actually do our taxes.... good luck, everyone.

You are correct. You do not need to file an amended California return if there was no change to your state tax liability or refund.    You are also correct that you do not need to send Worksheets to the IRS.    Here is what you will need to mail as part of your amendment:   Form 1040-X, signed and dated Form 1040, pages 1 & 2, showing the updated Lines 5a and 5b, with "Amended" written at the top Form 1099-R   Send the above via certified mail since this is your proof that you filed the correction.

The issue is for people like me who have a lot of crypto transactions where I did not receive any forms whatsoever. I used a lot of decentralized exchanges and they don't issue any forms or summary statements. When TT allowed csv imports I could handle this easily - but now that they disabled them in the TT desktop version and made it harder to use with the online version, it makes it difficult to handle. Luckily with the help of others I found this worksround.

Thanks for your reply, it was informative though it did not resolve my issue.  I verified the 1099-R was entered correctly in the federal income section and rechecked the federal return. Then went to the NJ return, checked Yes for first year withdrawal completed the section and rechecked the NJ return. The software is still populating lines 4a and 4b with a zero and flagging it as an error. The worksheet instructions say to complete either 4a or 4b; in my situation, 4a should be entered. I see no way to clear 4b. Again, this is a Pensions, Annuities and IRA Withdrawal worksheet; line 4a ‘First year of withdrawal from IRA Enter the total of IRA contributions previously taxed’

Okay I got it working. Had to use the times new roman font everywhere for all fields and I increased the size to 12. All of the letters must be uppercase.  Once I did this TT reads in everything correctly and recognizes all the letters. Don't have to edit any transactions afterwards. Thanks for your help and I hope others find this useful.
