It appears that if the amount in box 5 equals the amount in box 1, TurboTax fails to properly mark box 1 Rollover on line 5c. The IRS instructions for lines 5a and 5b are pretty clear that box 1 Rollover should be marked for this transaction, but this bug has been present for at least several years, so TurboTax's failure to mark this box shouldn't really be a problem. As an alternative, reducing the amount in box 5 by $1 seems to allow TurboTax to mark box 5c Rollover and still produces the correct taxable amount of $0 on line 5b. Doing this should be transparent to the IRS since the form is not included in your e-filing because there is no tax withholding present in box 4.

Where are you seeing it change? At the end Turbo Tax shows you the combined federal and state refund/tax due. But that is only for your information. Federal and state are completely separate. You will still get the full refund and need to pay any tax due. Do you owe the difference to one?

Fast forward to now, I am filing our 2025 Federal taxes and I got the 1099R from Vanguard for the excess contribution withdraw made in 2025 for 2024's taxes. The $46 of taxes is on the 2025 1099R in box 4. Box 1's total distribution and box 2a are higher than what I entered into 2024 Federal return back in March...its higher by the value of $46's in taxes Vanguard withheld. For 2025's taxes I entered the 2025 1099R just as it appeared with the codes P&J. Do I have to amend 2024's taxes for the $46???

At the summary screen for Income, TurboTax displays information about the sources of income you had last year. This is meant to help users remember to enter the same item again this year, or to tell TurboTax that they don't have this income source again this year.
You should not enter the actual income items twice. If you did, delete the duplicate entry. It's possible that the Live Chat AI may not have understood your question.

Assuming you are referring to Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions:
TurboTax is limiting the fields in which you can make changes in Forms Mode if the field involves a calculation. The preferred way to make changes is to go back to Step-by-Step (Easy Step in Mac) and revisit the Charitable Donations questionnaire.
See also this TurboTax help article for information about the new fair market valuation (FMV) tool that helps you price your charitable donations if you’re itemizing your deductions.
Overriding a calculation in TurboTax is generally not advised and could affect your Accurate Calculation Guarantee.

Solution: Do not allow any boxes to remain blank! Put in zero even if previous years TurboTax has allowed it to remain blank or if the tax form from Fidelity Investments is actually blank. TurboTax (the program, not the online version) requires all fields to be filled in before it will accept the form imported from Fidelity Investments.

I’m running into this exact issue and it’s clearly not user error at this point. I’m using the desktop version of TurboTax, fully updated (no updates available). This is not a browser issue. Exact flow where it breaks: 1. Click “Done with Deductions” 2. It launches “Maximizing your deductions and credits” 3. Then shows “Here are your 2025 deductions and credits” 4. Click Continue Immediately get: “Hmm, looks like we hit a snag. We recommend you revisit the last topic you were working on to make sure all your info's correct." What I’ve already done: 1. Created multiple brand new returns 2. Tested with and without prior-year import 3. Entered only a single W-2 (also tested manual entry) 4. Skipped all deductions entirely 4. Reviewed Forms and cleared any flagged items Same error every time. Key point: This happens even on a completely clean return with minimal input, so this is very likely a software bug, not bad data. Has anyone found an actual fix, or does this need a patch?
