@Jmt4251 wrote: If I purchased a download and my computers can’t accommodate program, can I apply the code for payment online? If you have a Windows 10 computer, there is a way to do it, but, you cannot simply use the activation code by entering it somewhere in the online product. HOWEVER, there is a special method (see FAQ below)where you can switch from the desktop software you bought to Online PREMIUM for preparation of 1 Federal return and 1 state return, with free efiling. So that might be a good deal IF you only have 1 Federal and 1 state to prepare. Online is not a good deal for multiple returns, since each return requires a separate account and fee (other than 1 with this free offer.) It does not include any add-ons like Expert Assist, MAX, a second state return, etc. To do that, you have to start the installation of the 2025 desktop product, and if you are using Windows 10, it will tell you it can't be installed and offer you a special link to switch to the Online Premium at no additional cost. You have to do it from within that desktop installation screen. A screen then asks you to log in (through that interface) to your Online account and enter the license code. It's pretty straight forward if you just follow the prompts. Once you do those steps you should end up in Online Premium. Confirm that by looking in the top left corner, and it should say "Do It Yourself" Premium. You should also check that it's not charging. To do that click the tiny shopping cart icon in the top right. It should display the prices crossed out and a $0 instead. A note there says you have to file by April 16, 2026. Provide the following info for more specific help (just for one student-dependent, for now):
Box 1 of the 1098-T
box 5 of the 1098-T
Any other scholarships not shown in box 5
Does box 5 include any of the 529/ESA plan payments (it should not)
Is any of the Scholarship restricted; i.e. it must be used for tuition
Box 1 of the 1099-Q
Box 2 of the 1099-Q (if not shown, you may have to calculate the earnings)
Who’s name and SS# are on the 1099-Q, parent or student (who’s the “recipient”)?
Room & board paid. If student lives off campus, what is school's R&B on campus charge. If he lives at home, the school’s R&B “allowance for cost of attendance” for student living with parents.
Other qualified expenses not included in box 1 of the 1098-T, e.g. books & computers
How much taxable income does the student have, from what sources
Are you trying to claim the tuition credit (are you eligible)?
Is the student an undergrad or grad student?
Is the student a degree candidate attending school half time or more?

I live in TN, but worked locally for two different companies who are headquartered in another state. One put TN in box 15 (left 16 & 17 blank), and the other put TN in box 15 with 'NO W/H' right beside it), put my gross salary in box 16, and left 17 blank. So, to answer your question - box 17 is blank on both W2s. I appreciate the quick replies! I guess I'll just leave 15-17 blank on the TurboTax return and hope for the best 🙂

Also FYI - When I finish my federal taxes and Turbo Tax shares summary information, one page is for "Retirement Deductions Results." Again, on this page, it ignores the "Employer Matching (Profit Sharing) Contributions" already made and displays an "Amount to be Contributed by Plan Due Date" in bold and red font. If I contributed this amount as it appears to be screaming at me to do, I would exceed the IRS limitations that TurboTax appears to have correctly calculated and displays on this screen as "Amount deductible." Isn't this an error by TurboTax, or am I overlooking something? Thanks!

Instead of overriding the form, try going through the Net Investment Income Tax interview again. Watch for a screen that asks, “Do you have any additional modifications or deductions for Form 8960?” You can usually enter a manual adjustment there, which will flow to Line 9b and keep the electronic links intact.
Property taxes on Line 9b are now directly supported by the instructions. As long as you have documentation—like Schedule A showing the paid taxes—and a reasonable method for your allocation percentage, this entry is considered low risk.

Can Intuit give us an update if they fix 2025 depreciation and amortization yet? I was given the answer that it will be fixed by Feb. 19, I just updated it and it seems not yet fix it. Thank you

It is good to know that the plan cost data is not needed. I did not think the information was needed since I have filled out this form on TurboTax Desktop version for many years. The problem was the web based TurboTax required me to put in a number or my return was incomplete and I could not e-file. I ended up putting in a zero for that value and the software was ok with that.

TurboTax will automatically generate the 5329 under the right circumstances.
Enter the 1099-R as is (especially with the distribution code of '1'). Answer all the usual questions.
Eventually, you will see a screen titled "Let's See if we can lower tax bill". Hit Continue.
On the next screen check off which person qualifies for the penalty exception (oddly, you are to click the pencil in the desktop product, I don't know what the Online product looks like).
On the next screen, identify the plan (remember that you might have multiple 1099-Rs so help TurboTax learn which one it is).
On the next screen, enter the amount of "Equal periodic payments." (72(t)). This will enter exception code 2 on line 2, and remove the 10% penalty on this amount from line 4.

Thank you for your prompt reply — your explanation helps clarify TurboTax’s internal approach for employer (W‑2 code W) HSA excess amounts. One additional data point from the TurboTax Deluxe 2025 (Mac) interview screens: TurboTax explicitly identifies the 2025 excess ($2,429) and asks if we will withdraw it by April 15, 2026 to avoid the 6% excise tax, and then states: “Great! We’ll remove this amount and the extra tax from your return.” This suggests to me that TurboTax is using that input to remove this amount (from income) and to resolve the Form 5329 / 6% excise tax issue. However, even after answering that we will withdraw the full excess by the deadline (and we already did withdraw it in Nov 2025), TurboTax still appears to add the same employer excess amount back to Schedule 1 line 8f as income. So it seems TurboTax handles the excise‑tax side correctly, but does not carry that same “excess was withdrawn” fact into the income characterization step for employer contributions. If that’s correct, then the remaining issue isn’t the timing under IRS rules (we’re within the filing deadline), but rather a TurboTax limitation: it can remove the 6% excise tax, yet still can’t prevent the Schedule 1 add‑back for employer code W excesses without a corrected W‑2. If there is a TurboTax‑supported way to reflect “excess withdrawn by due date” so that only the earnings are taxed (and not the excess principal), I’d appreciate it greatly!
