It appears that my Form 1116 (General Category Income), line 3d is adding my income stated on Form 1116, Line 1 to the amount of income stated on Form 2555.  As such, Form 1116, line 3d is double what my actual general category income is.     I've read the Help note "About Line 3d".  Quite frankly, I can't make sense of it.    " In many cases, this (Line 3d) will be the same amount that you entered on line 1. However, if the income that you reported on line 1 was income earned in a foreign country and you excluded some of that income on Form 2555, Foreign Earned Income, line 3d is your total foreign income NOT reduced by the amount excluded on Form 2555. In this case, be sure that you make an entry on the Foreign Tax Credit Computation Worksheet in the Income Excluded on Form 2555 Smart Worksheet. "   In my case, the income reported on line 1 was earned in a foreign country and was completely excluded on Form 2555.   I am unable to find the Foreign Tax Credit Computation Worksheet in the Income Excluded on Form 2555 Smart Worksheet.   The fact that line 3d in double what my actual income was, it doesn't appear to affect the tax calculations.  However, it is incorrect.   How do I correct the information showing on Form 1116, line 3d?   Thank you in advance.

Hello:   The Canadian Support site appears to be totally non-functional. Perhaps because we are Canadians? Did you say: retribution?  Anyhow accessing various posts returns: Access denied. This issue has been around for more than a year, and promises were made to have it fixed. This is not the case. This is simply a matter of tasking someone (with appropriate DB skills) to fix a relatively simple problem. Is Intuit incapable of finding such resource? Please fix it!
In form 6251, Turbotax appears to be adding back the amount of the standard deduction to my taxable income for AMT purposes even though I am not taking the standard deduction. Line 12e of Form 1040 is 0.

After an exhausting time (both husband and I) on the phone with tt cs without a proper solution, I realized for the time we consumed trying to resolve the issue, we could have simply done our taxes again at freetaxusa. I *thought* it would be difficult since we were tt customers for decades so it had our rental depreciation worksheets and we did not want to have to manually type the info again on FTUSA...well..we did it! And happy to report that the federal and state return numbers align with that of tt! What a relief to know that now we are not bound to tt..I paid under $25 to prepare both fed and state returns and efile them! Whereas, I prepaid to get Premier tt online at the the early bird special $120 for both fed and state! And freetaxusa completed the 5695 form correctly! No need for a workaround...Looking forward to using FTUSA for subsequent years at only $25...:) BTW, just got an email from FTUSA that our federal and state returns got accepted as I was typing this post...Yay!

This answer assumes your previous returns were prepared in Online TurboTax.   Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account.  Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary.  Many people end up with more than 1 account.  The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2025 return.  I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation.   If you have not yet started a 2025 online return: Sign in to your account.   What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2025 return in that account.   If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2025 return in that account.  If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions.  Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column.  Do not click the Documents tab.  Instead, click on Tax Home.  Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents".  Expand that section and choose the past year you want.   If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.  I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot.   If you have already started a 2025 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2025 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home.  If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu.  Do not use the Documents tab.  At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents."   If the past returns are not there, see the steps below.   If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.   To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below.  When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it.   After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop.  Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below.  You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access,  here's another method:          Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.

Thanks, that's what I thought based off the instructions. I have been wondering if in the future the IRS could say I had to do it if their definitions of long term residents or something change. Would it do more harm than good to fill out the form now to prevent any future potential issues, or do you think it's unlikely there would be any issues?
I entered it correctly, 10 alpha numeric ID on the back
