The total section 179 amount should be entered on line 33(a), or $4,900. Vehicles are generally treated as 5-year property under MACRS for business, allowing depreciation over 6 years due to the half-year convention (20%, 32%, 19.2%, 11.52%, 11.52%, 5.76%). Half-year convention assumes you purchased the vehicle before October, 2024 (before the last quarter). The recomputed depreciation will be the following converted from the regular method to the straight line method due to the reduction of 51% or less business use: 2024 = $4,900 x 10% = $490 2025 = $4,900 x business use percentage x 20% = $ | Combined Total = $____ this will be the amount on line 34(a) IRS Publication 946 - SLHY Convention Table The business use percentage is business miles divided by total miles on the vehicle. Line 35a will be the difference. @timothybpayne [Edited: 03/02/2026 | 3:57 PM PST]

@user17724894562 Since you have entered that you want the payment done by direct debitt, entered the bank routing and account number and the date for the debit, when the tax return is e-filed, this information will be received by the IRS.
The payment voucher, Form 1040-V, is only used if you were sending a check for the federal taxes owed and were NOT using direct debit.

"We actually got bitten by this last year. Turbotax didn't flag anything but the IRS made me remove money from the Roth IRA because my contribution exceeded my net income." Compensation available to support an IRA contribution (traditional or Roth) is net profit is reduced only by the deductible portion of self-employment taxes and the the deductible amount of self-employed retirement contributions. See Self-employment income under What is Compensation? in IRS Pub 590-A. The self-employed health insurance deduction does not reduce compensation for the purpose. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p590a.pdf

Thanks for the information! However, in an earlier version of this post, you mentioned that "Because the income was reported on a 1099 NEC, the IRS treats that income as nonemployee compensation, even if you don't consider yourself self-employed. In TurboTax, you should enter the 1099-NEC as self-employment income so it is reported correctly." But given I am not operating a research services business, I should ignore your earlier post, and put it under "other income?"

Thanks for your guidance. Our LLC is owned 100% by my wife & I, so, we could split the expenses and enter them following the "... do you pay expenses that were not reimbursed?" box for each of the LLC K-1s flowed down to our joint 1040. Our charter does require us to pay expenses that are not reimbursed. I believed this approach would document these expenses on our Schedule E vs. the 1065. I worried it might be inappropriate to enter expenses directly on the 1065 unless they were actually paid by, or reimbursed by, the LLC. I understood expenses by owners/members that were not reimbursed should be shown on the owner/member's Schedule E. A confirmation of your recommendation would be appreciated & thanks again for your experience and wisdom😊 Paul

THANK YOU! I had re-entered the information earlier today, but I re-entered these numbers again just now and it finally worked. It now shows $1000 as the credit, and the check box is checked. I didn't see a generated statement, but I didn't go through all the print-view pages, so that's fine.

FAQ: How do I import my QuickBooks info into TurboTax?
In TurboTax Business, you can also find it as an option under Federal Taxes:
If you're using Premier edition, you'll also have the option to import from a financial institution.

No, you do not have to report your son's BAH or BAS for income tax purposes. You would not need to use his Leave and Earnings Statement. Note: if you are trying to determine if you can still claim him as a dependent, you would need to use the BAH and BAS as support he provides.
