Do It Yourself, Free, covers simple tax situations only. If you're using the online version, TurboTax has optimized its editions since 2021 to ensure that our customers have access to the forms they need to make the most of every individual's tax situation while also respecting the accuracy guarantee.    Since certain claims/expenses were transferred to the appropriate edition. TurboTax is better able to guide our customers through the filing process, ensuring that no credits or deductions are missed. If the claim/expense is not covered by your current edition, you will be automatically prompted to upgrade to the appropriate one.   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Exactly. I called Turbo Tax Support to report thr issue and hope to have an update, but they refused to understand the issue and log a ticket.    My ticket was closed without resolution. When I asked why, support said I will get a call from Supervisor, which I never did.   I've been a WinTax/TurboTax user for 30 years, and this year I'm totally disappointed.    The idea is that they are forcing people to buy Premier edition

In TurboTax Online, when you are amending your state return and adding or updating state information on your W-2, the program automatically saves your entries when you select Continue or Done after entering the data. Make sure after updating boxes 15–17 for state code, state wages, and state tax withheld, you click Continue until you return to the W-2 Summary screen. Leaving the screen without continuing may cause the information not to save. If the information still doesn't save, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser and repeat the steps. Do you want me to guide you through the exact steps to update and save your W-2 state info during a state amendment?

If a private insurance company or third-party administrator handles your Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) payments instead of a state agency, you might receive a 1099-MISC (typically with the amount in Box 3) rather than a 1099-G. To report this in TurboTax, navigate to the "Other Common Income" section and enter the 1099-MISC details. Ensure you specify that the payment was not related to self-employment or your regular work to prevent being charged unnecessary self-employment taxes.   To enter your 1099-MISC for Paid Family and Medical Leave in TurboTax Online, follow these steps: 1. Go to the Wages & Income section. 2. Find the 1099-MISC and Other Common Income area and select Start or Update next to Income from Form 1099-MISC. 3. Answer Yes to "Did you get a 1099-MISC?" 4. Enter the details exactly as they appear on your form.

Given the choices that you mentioned, click on Wages and Income Summary.  Then answer any questions that come up.  Finally, you should see an option to Add More Income.  Clicking this will open more categories to find Less Common Income at the bottom of the screen.   Then go to Miscellaneous Income 1099-A, 1099-C and then to Other Reportable Income.     @ryfischer

While it can be frustrating, it’s common for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to make a tax return assessment that is different from yours.   The reasons for these discrepancies may vary and can range from very simple (typo or data entry error, forgotten slip, receipt, amount, etc.) to complex (carry-forward amounts not included, accounting errors, etc.).    In most cases, the CRA will explain how they calculated your tax refund or balance owing, and you can find this information on your Notice of Assessment (NOA) under the heading "Explanation of changes and other important information." Compare the line numbers on your NOA and their corresponding values with those entered into TurboTax.   The CRA will send you an NOA (or it will appear in your "CRA My Account" under "My Mail"). Look at the "Explanation of changes and other important information" section. It will specifically list what was changed.   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
If you mailed the tax return and have a federal tax refund, it can take 4 weeks or longer before the status of the refund shown on the IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Let's start with your post from March 18th. I was able to download and view the screenshot. Yes, it's correct for TurboTax to select recapture. This is not important and has been answered in the original steps. Trade-in is a sale and you selected converted to personal use which is correct. I see it isn't in the screen showing the 1993 Honda Civic - but on this screen it does show it was placed in service in 2006, so as closely as you can remember the cost, if you have no record, you can use the business use percentage of that cost. It appears on the Sale of Business or Rental Property that you have entered a business cost basis. The actual recapture amount will be the depreciation up to the amount of gain. In your case the gain is $480 because the depreciation wiped out your business cost completely and you are left with this gain (the full sales price).   Thank you for your patience and for your kind words. @SyberKnight    [Edited: 03/21/2026 | 6:27 AM PST]
Since you were performing work for your business throughout the year, it is appropriate to set your start date as January 5th instead of November 15th when the book was officially published.

The Paid Family and Medical Leave was reported on a 1099-MISC.  I see in other posts that a 1099-G is usually used.  I just want to be sure that I am entering this Medical Leave correctly into Turbo Tax.   What would be the reason that a 1099-MISC form was sent instead of a 1099-G?   Should I be reaching out to the 3rd party Insurance Company?   Help!
