The same thing is happening to me. I do a back-door Roth. Every year before April 15 I contribute the max amount (for me at 57 it's $8000) to a Traditional IRA for the previous tax year. Then, usually around May I convert the entire amount to a Roth IRA. So for 2025, I had a 1099-R showing the $8000 distribution from my Traditional IRA. I input that and then tell Turbo Tax I converted the whole $8000 to my Roth IRA. In Feb 2026, I contributed another $8000 to the Traditional IRA for the 2025 tax year. When I tell Turbo Tax that I completed my 2025 contribution between Jan 1, 2026 and April 15, 2026, I tax refund goes down about $2000 and it shows all $8000 of my 2025 IRA distribution as being taxable. If I put $0 of my 2025 Trad IRA contribution occurred between Jan 1, 2026 and April 15, 2026, the $8000 distribution isn't taxed and my refund goes up $2000. This seems like a glitch. Turbo Tax really sucks overall at the whole Roth back-door thing!!

You can't change the amount you want refunded on your original return by amending.  If you need to amend your return, wait until the IRS accepts the original return and you have received your refund.  Once you have received your refund you can amend your return.  The IRS will calculate your underpayment penalty based on the information they have.  What they calculate may be different than what was on line 38 - "Estimated tax penalty..." of your original return.  If so, they will adjust your refund accordingly.   Unless you are filing Form 2210 to annualize your income or request a waiver there is no need to amend and file it.

@kcarterco I assume you mean it is reported on line 8Z (not 3z) of schedule 1).   I also use Form 1116 in my tax return, so I added a form 1099-MISC to see how it impacted Form 1116.  It doesn't impact form 1116 in the manner you describe.   Line 3e of form 1116 increases by the exact amount of the dummy 1099-MISC I added.     have you tried deleting your 1099-MISC form and re-entering? I am using desktop deluxe version.

catina: i have the same print quality issue that you responded to. HP has had me print out pages in Excel and they are fine but when i print out a return in Turbo Tax, it is too faint to see. I actually went back to 2024 Turbo Tax and those forms also come out faint. Any ideas how to "darken" the returns I print?

If TurboTax is not allowing you to select Bonus Depreciation at all, be sure to check the following:   Business use must be 50% or more. If used less than 50%, Bonus Depreciation is not allowed and you will need to use Straight-Line Depreciation The "luxury auto" limit (Vehicles under 6,000 lbs, Bonus Depreciation is capped at $20,200)  Ensure the Date Placed in Service is 2025 If the original return opted out of Bonus Depreciation for 5-year property, you may not be able to change the election without IRS permission   Although you would prefer not to use Section 179, it does allow you to deduct up to 100% of the cost (up to specific limits). However, the S-Corp is required to have taxable income, since you cannot use Section 179 to create a loss, like you can if you elect to use Bonus Depreciation.

If you are using TurboTax Do It Yourself (Online), you can   Unfortunately, once you have upgraded or added features to your TurboTax return, there is no way to downgrade or remove the extra features. You would need to create a new return to go back to the original product.    To start a new return, select “Start a New Return” from under “My Returns” in the bottom left corner. Once you have started your new return, you can select “View All Returns” from under “My Returns”. Then delete the unwanted return by clicking the small Trash Can next to it or “Delete” under the return’s name.

In Windows 11 Microsoft removed a legacy utility which TurboTax Desktop used to use in the license activation process. We have already updated TurboTax to remove the code that used the removed utility. However, if you installed TurboTax before it was updated (and after the legacy utility was removed), then that could cause the software to behave as if it was never activated.   I don't know why it's happening in Windows 10, though. You might want contact our phone support team to look into this further.

I purchased my used car in 2023 for $34080 and according to TT was allowed a Section 179 deduction of $10492. In 2024, the depreciation deduction TT showed was $2290 (I used my vehicle about 52% in my business).  This year, year 3, I have used my vehicle about 57% in my business and TT is showing no depreciation deduction.  The worksheets show all of this information but $0 depreciation for year 3.  The 2 year comparison is showing $0 for depreciation for 2024 even though I was allowed $2290.   I think something is wrong and that I should be allowed something for depreciation in 2025.   Any suggestions or advice?

I think there is a bug in the 2025 TurboTax Deluxe Desktop version.  I have used TurboTax to track my Roth IRA basis for many years but it is not working correctly this year. I select the "Traditional and Roth IRA Contributions" from the Deductions & Credits menu.  I respond to the step-by-step questions for myself and my wife (we are MFJ).  During my data entry, it skips the question "Do you want TurboTax to track (Thomas') Roth IRA basis?" and goes directly to the "What were (Thomas') Roth IRA contributions prior to 2025?" prompt.  (It asks both these questions for my wife's data entry.)  When I enter my total Roth contribution amount, it does not take into account the Roth IRA withdrawals from previous years.  The basis value in lines 6 and 23 on my IRA Information Worksheet form is the full contribution amount entered at the above prompt.  My 2024 IRA Worksheet does not have this error - it lists the correct amounts. Additional background - I have not contributed to my Roth IRA for many, many years.  I have performed Roth conversions every year from 2019-2025.  I have made Roth withdrawals in 2023, 2024 and 2025.  And one more comment - the "Learn more" link on the "What were your Roth IRA contributions prior to 2025?" page actually opens up a "Roth IRA Conversion" help topic, which is wrong. Please let me know if you need additional information to troubleshoot this software bug. Thank you.
