No, that is not true. The problem is, BY DEFAULT, Apply Overpayment to Next Year option is NOT available on 'A few things before we wrap up your state taxes' page and under Other Situations like you say. I do not have a vision problem, thank you.   After struggling for a few hours, and comparing this year's program with the last year's program, I noticed that there was "Estimated Tax" worksheet in the last years program where you could manually edit the value. So I went back to this years program and I clicked through "Estimated Tax" section without filling out anything to the end.  Only then, you will be brought back to 'A few things before' page again, and all of sudden 'Apply Overpayment to Next Year' button showed up. I've been using Turbotax for 25 years, but this was not how it had been working, and in Federal section, that is not how it works now (you don't have to go through Estimated Tax section to bring up the option). There is no explanation anywhere in the program, I just found out by trial and error wasting hours of my time.

It let me add the new income, it calculates the amount I now owe, but then takes me to the print/view return page and doesn't give me the option to actually file the amended return.

@DaveF1006  To clarify, what does the sentence "This option erases your information to give you a fresh start in the new product you've chosen." mean? It gives the impression that even my information from last year might be erased.   To further clarify, I think the option to "Start for Free" is misleading. It can be interpreted that if I don't use "Expert Assist" it won't cost extra. What a surprise! Not only am I caught off guard, facing a significantly higher cost than expected but the recommended alternative is the erase my information and start over. How friendly... Have you noticed that no one "likes" your posts with this recommendation?   I've used TurboTax since 1994 and never once saw a benefit for being a repeat customer. I'm getting the message.

Your question is not clear. There is no line 16b on Form 1040. What exactly are you trying to do? You should enter your pension, and the simplified method information, in the step-by-step interview, not in forms mode. Entering it in forms mode is complicated and error-prone. When you use the interview TurboTax will make the appropriate entry on Form 1040.
