pre-tax benefits, the amount was subtracted from your taxable wages in box 2. There is no further tax benefit or anything else to report.

@Opus 17 wrote: I've asked for this to be investigated. ML should at least be listed as an option, going by past behavior. Agreed and if, for some reason, Intuit is parting ways here (or Merrill is), then Intuit should take the ML name and logo off the import screen where it appears prominently (or at least it used to). I assume it's still there and it's false advertising (or at least misleading) otherwise.

Hi, I set up a solo 401k (self-employed, no employees) with auto-enrollment option, in February 2026 and I will make contributions for 2025. Can I claim the $500 ($1500 spreed over 3 years) auto-enrollment option tax credit for 2025, or only for 2026 and forward (2027 and 2028)? Form 8881 Part II. Thanks

I successfully filed my tax returns using Turbotax Desktop with a Form 5695 on Feb 3 at 4 pm. I had an issue with what QMID meant. So I googled it and got a link to the IRS's Qualified Manufacturer ID's (QMID's). I found the manufacturer of my heat pump and entered its QMID #. Some said Turbotax placed their entry on the wrong line of Form 5695. That did not happen on mine. I was able to select a heat pump and it sent to the correct line on Form 5695 to get the $2,000 credit. I'm an accountant. So I check these things out.

I just spent over an hour with a TurboTax tech. After consulting with two supervisors, they admitted that it is a bug. To get past the "A value is required" Custodian name page, just click Back, then Back again to return to Step-by-Step. We did a REVIEW and it found three spots on a form that needed to be checked No. Then everything passed so this does not prevent us from filing. However, it does not give me much confidence in TurboTax right now.

@Opus 17 wrote: Would prefer to buy a bit of software out of the box and not have to disclose my life story just to use it. If you feel that way, you might be better off using H&R Block's desktop software since Block doesn't require you to set up any type of account with them (unlike TurboTax where you need an Intuit account). The software is also much, much less expensive than the TurboTax equivalents. I think the interface is more clunky than TurboTax but it's about the same otherwise. Re the online variants, I believe H&R Block requires one email per account and return (just like TurboTax) BUT TaxAct allows users to prepare up to 5 returns (online) with only one email address (each return still incurs a separate charge). This is just for comparative purposes.

Where do I enter 1099-B on my return?

Just to be clear, when your mother gifted you half of the house, your mother also gifted you half of her basis in the house and that became your basis in that half of the house.

I switched from HR Block for the 2024 return to TurboTax Deluxe for the 2025 return. It's been a disaster! 1) I was under the impression I could import from 2024 return. Nothing was imported due to my use of 1040-SR resulting in hours of tedious data entry. 2) It's February 6th now and a crucial form (form 4562) I need in doing my return is still not available in the TurboTax program. I'm going back to Block for the 2025 return. I chock up the wasted cost for TurboTax as a learning experience.

I started receiving Social Security in 2025. I received a lump sum payment for my deceased husband (who passed away in 2005) and I cannot enter the lump sum payment because the software only accepts lump sums up to 2024. His SSA-1099SM has his SSN on it, so I'm figuring I cannot combine his and my amounts in Box 5. What are my next steps?

Guess I'm replying to myself but since I'm non resident of Iowa my "Iowa source" income and dividends are zero (in order for the non-resident credit to work properly) so it really doesn't ask me much about the income. I do properly break the muni-bonds dividends up into multi-state and iowa back in the federal/main input section. I do appreciate the help as I have been spent 4 hours on phone this week with tax experts and sent in two diagnostics files and TTax can recreate the problem, just can't seem to fix the bug.
