If you are filing as Married Filing Separately you are not eligible for the deduction.  If you are Single and your AGI is over $150,000 or Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is over $250,000 you are not eligible for the deduction.   If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.   Standard deductions for 2025 Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older   New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. This is per eligible individual, meaning a married couple both over 65 could get $12,000. Important: This bonus deduction is temporary, lasting from 2025 through 2028. Income limitations: It phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers. The amount is calculated on Schedule 1-A, Part V, with that amount flowing to Form 1040 Line 13b Look at your Form 1040 - You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. In 2025, as a single Virginia taxpayer, I received a $200 tax rebate from Virginia, which is NOT a tax refund.   But Desktop doesn't appear to offer a way to enter this Virginia tax rebate, so I use the 1099-G tax refund screen.   On the TurboTax Desktop screen titled "Tell us about the refund you received in 2025", there is a blue link which says:   "How do I enter my rebates for VA or IL ?" and when I click on that link, a TurboTax Help window appears which says:   Help content not found for com.intuit.ctg.tpshelpscreen:///S2025US1040PER/hypg1099home   Please answer "How do I enter my rebates for VA or IL ?"   In the meantime, I went ahead and entered this $200 rebate as if it was a refund, and according to the Desktop form "St Refund Wks", this $200 tax rebate is not considered taxable income by TurboTax--even though I itemized deductions in the prior year (2024), including state and local taxes.   Is this correct ?

I am using Expert Assist Premium online.   I was going through the section on estimated taxes for 2026. (I'm a 1099, I underpaid last year, and want to make sure I don't underpay this year.) As part of the question to calculate my estsimate tax payments, TT asked "[HUSBAND] was 71 years old on January 1, 2026.  No. He was not. His birthdate is November 1955, so he turned 70 in November, not 71.    It did the same thing to me. [WIFE] was 60 years old on January 1, 2026. NO. My birthdate is December 1966, so I turned 59 in December, not 60.   Our birthdates are entered correctly in the personal information section - this is probably the 8th year in a row I've used TT, and the personal information is carried over from year to year and has always been correct. I confirmed by looking at it again after seeing the calcuation errors.   Both ages were editable in the age box, so they are correct now...but what the HECK. How can I trust Turbo Tax with all the complicated calculations in my return if it can't get our ages right?? I am having serious thoughts about scrapping my returns and starting over with a different company.

A business expense is something that you have to buy in order to do the job, or something that you only buy to do the job.   It sounds like you were at home doing this job using equipment that you already had.  So you did not have to spend any money on anything in order to do this.     If you had to drive to any locations in order to do these jobs then you can take a deduction for the mileage that you drove.  If you purchased any office supplies in order to these jobs that would be a deduction.   If you have an area of your home that you used exclusively for business - it can't also double as the dining room or your bedroom - then you can take a deduction for a home office.  TurboTax will walk you through the steps for that.

I am using Turbotax Windows version for 2025 tax filing.  For NJ filing, the software is trying to charge me interest for paying my Q2 estimated tax payment on 17 June 2025 even though I paid through the automated NJ portal that withdraws the money on the due date and have a receipt saying the due date is 17 June.   Turbotax thinks the due date is 16 June 2025, but this is wrong.   How can I override the Turbotax date so it is 17 June?   2/26/26 additional note:  I just found the same problem for Q3.  The due date for NJ per their automated payment site is 16 Sept 2025 but Turbotax thinks the due date is 15 Sept 2025 and charges interest for payments made on 16 Sept.  This date needs to be fixed also.   I have a screenshot from the "Estimated Payments Payment Confirmation" screen of NJ dated 18 March 2025 at 10:26am that shows the due dates for Q2 and Q3 but this UI does not allow me to attach it to this post.  This website is the State of NJ Department of the Treasury, Division of Taxation.  The page is titled "Individual Taxpayer Account, Filing and Payment Services Payment Confirmation".

That's exactly how I've entered my annualized / uneven income, and estimated taxes in the past; however, this year, using the online version of the TurboTax Pennsylvania module, it doesn't work like that ... there's a glitch as I described in my original message.  I just tried it again, and the problem is still as I originally described.  Also, this is the ONLINE version that I am having problems with.

Thank you Volvo Girl 15. Your info was excellent and I checked box 32a. It didn't fix the issue but I went back to the step by step I had not checked the box pertaining to type of Independent Contractor. Once I checked the proper box it accepted my deductions and lowered my tax obligation.
I did not fill out the 8962 form for 2025 taxes and need to , is the form separate from the Amendment I am going to have to do?
