Thank you for answering my question! During a phone call with "product expert" of Turbotax yesterday, I was instructed to put $1 in the box 1 of my second W-2. Was that a legit operation? If not, I will revert that to $0 and try your solution again. Thanks!

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 03/04/2026   An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return. Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS. I am doing my taxes and turbotax is showing the side by side comparison of my deductions and credits from 2024 and now 2025.  Last year I received $3000.00 for child and dependent tax credit.  This year it is 0.  I still have 3 kids, ages 16, 18 and 18. (twins) and they live with me.  I have reviewed the entries in turbo tax about each dependent and nothing is different.  Why I am getting nothing?

For years I have purchased and used Turbo Tax Standard desktop for my tax returns. The returns include T5, T3 slips and some stock transactions. Do i now need to use Premier?

Codes TP and TT for W-2 box 12 are for tips and overtime, and appear in the IRS instructions for Form W-2 for 2026, but not for 2025.  If your employer used codes that are not available for 2025, you can simply skip entering those two codes in your W-2.    I'm not aware of any upcoming changes to the program for this issue.   If your tips are not in the correct boxes on Form W-2, you can enter the information for Tips and Overtime where prompted in the follow-up screens that appear after you finish entering the W-2. If tips are already reported in Box 7, the follow-up screens will ask questions to determine whether you qualify for the deduction for tips.   If you have other box 12 capital letter codes and amounts, select + Add another box 12 item to enter all of the ones on your W-2" if needed.   Check with your employer if you are not sure of the amounts to report for tips and overtime.

IRS released my refund yesterday/Monday. My bank releases deposits when they come in and I asked them if they have any pending deposits and they do not. I am wondering if the pay with my federal refund is holding up the release of the refund. And if you use Santa Barabara Tax Payer group for that? Anyone in a similar situation?

It depends on your assumption of Foreign Qualified Dividends. To be considered a "Qualified Foreign Dividend" for the Foreign Tax Credit (Form 1116), the underlying foreign corporation must meet specific IRS criteria. This usually means:   The corporation is incorporated in a US possession, OR The corporation is eligible for benefits under a comprehensive US income tax treaty, OR The stock is readily tradable on an established US securities market (like an ADR). If your ETF focuses on emerging markets or countries without tax treaties, those dividends may count as “Qualified” on your Form 1040 and get capital gains rates—but might not qualify for the adjustment on Form 1116. If the ETF sponsor reports $0.00, it usually means the underlying investments didn’t meet the “treaty-benefit” requirements for the foreign tax credit.   It may seem like you’re missing out on a tax benefit, but here’s how tax reporting works. The IRS gets the same 1099 and data that you do. If you enter anything other than $0.00 for foreign qualified dividends, your Form 1116 won’t match what your broker sends. This often leads to automatic IRS notices. Since the ETF company lists $0.00 on their website, they’ve likely already reviewed their holdings and found that none qualify for that category.   To summarize, report $0.00 of foreign qualified dividends based on the information in the supplemental section and on the website. Don't make any adjustments without a corrected supplemental disclosure statement from your broker.

@RogerD1 wrote: When you enter information in TurboTax, you should be making your entries in "Step by Step" mode and not in "Forms" mode.   I am entering the data in "Step by Step" mode, but I'm verifying the results in "Forms" mode. That is what I took screen shots of (the results).   For example:   I had to manually change the code in the form to XX from AZ. Perhaps if I deleted the form altogether and re-imported it / re-entered it, it would work better.   Side note: I find it more than a little annoying that the FIs don't actually have all this built into their forms instead of assuming that self-preparers know all this on their own.   If you had used "Step by Step" mode for these interest entries, the "State where the dividends were earned. Postal code (such as "CA" or "NY")" would be coded XX and the allocation of the non-resident state interest would have appeared correctly on AZ Form 140 line 15.  If all the dividends came from one state, that state code would be on that line, but because the dividends came from multiple states (including the resident state), that line would need to be coded XX.   The top set of data with code AZ would be OK, but the next two dividend entries should have code XX in the "State where the dividends were earned" line.  When you do this, this should correctly allocate your dividends between AZ and all other states, with the other states dividends appearing on line 15 of AZ Form 140.   Interesting. To test your theory, I replaced "AZ" with "XX" for the bottom two FIs and that data did populate AZ-140's Line 15. However, the top set of data where the source all came from one state (CA), AZ doesn't work in that field -- that amount doesn't carry. Only when I change it to "CA" does it carry as it should.   I can only conclude that the "State where the dividends were earned. Postal code (such as "CA" or "NY") ___" field is NOT the state where you live when you receive dividend, but rather the state where the dividends came from. The wording is rather confusing.

Exactly my problem right now. This company is greedy as hell and I hope they get sued to oblivion. I refuse to use them any further.
I'm receiving the same message when trying to file. Has this been fixed yet? I did the update and still the same error. Would like to E-file, vs having to print all the forms out and post them.
It kicked in for me on Feb. 20, as had been rumored.

In reference to earning less than $400 and not needing to file, that only counts for gross profit, which is sales less cost of goods sold. Since he received over $400 in service revenue, he does have to file a tax return.    There is a category for supplies on line 22, you should use that for things like whistles and similar small tools of the trade. Mileage would only be deductible if he paid for it and then only from one assignment to another, not from home to the game and back.
