The link below will allow you to amend your state return. Keep in mind some states simply have a check box to indicate it is an amendment. Any state amendment begins with the federal even if you are not amending it. Review the instructions before you make any changes to your tax return. How do I amend my state return? When it comes to the District of Columbia (DC) the use of Form D-40 is required to make corrections to your original D-40 return. To file an amended return for the current year, complete another 2025 DC Individual Income Tax Return and fill in the 'amended return' oval on the form. Attach a list with explanations of the changes covered by your amended return.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.    Sometimes—not always— the IRS corrects your mistakes, while they are processing your return.    If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed

You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.   Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed.  Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.    What is the rejection code or rejection message?     If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2024 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late.   Try using zero instead.   If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.     https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/agi/help/where-do-i-correct-my-agi-in-turbotax-online/00/26311   If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst         If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund before early March   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US   Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.
BTW, my issue is happening with Turbo Tax 2025 for Desktop.  So this seems to be a problem in general.

@taxdrama wrote: To add, the "Child's Unearned Income" section states that, "Now, we'll help you complete Form 8615, Tax for Certain Children Who Have Unearned Income." And, then it asks questions about my parents' filings. This is correct.  In this case, you are the "child" (because you are a full time student under age 24), and you will use form 8615 to calculate the correct tax.  That form requires some information from your parents, to determine how much of the extra "kiddie" tax you will pay on your stipend, because your parents' income and taxes affect your taxes because you are a child under age 24 who is a full time student.

TurboTax gets no information after you file your tax return, so no one at TT knows that your refund is delayed or why it is delayed.  Only the IRS can tell you.    If the IRS wants additional information from you, the IRS will mail you a letter and you will need to follow the instructions in the letter.   Or.....you might just have to wait while they do whatever they are doing that is delaying the refund.   You can watch for information on the the IRS refund site.   You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds

I read this with interest because I too, have been unable to transfer data from last year's return. In frustration, I double-clicked the older return and VOILA! TurboTax 2025 recognized it as an older return and transferred relevant data to the working return for 2025. Hope this works for you too. (M1 iMac, iOS 26.3).

If you are referring to an amount you are seeing at your Tax home screen to the right of Investments and savings that does not match the amounts showing on the following screen after you click on Add/Edit and see the list of your investments, this is often due to how the summary is calculated, rather than an error.   For example, the summary screen may group different types of income (interest, dividends, and capital gains) in a way that make the displayed total look different than what you see on the itemized list.   To verify your return is correct, you can use the "Preview my 1040" feature by clicking Tax Tools, Tools, View Tax Summary, then clicking on Preview my 1040 (above Tax tools on the left panel) and review Lines 2, 3 and 7.   If these lines align with your own calculations, then your return is mathematically correct and you do not need to make any corrections.   If you notice an amount is off, however, you can review the documents you have entered in TurboTax, making sure you have accurately inputted the amounts from each applicable box.

Downloaded from UBS. TurboTax put it in my spouses name who doesn't have an account. Never happened in previous years. Followup, how do I delete those downloads and restart?   Thanks, Bruce
