Yes, it is the correct action in TurboTax.  Although your employer did withhold this amount for you, it is included with all of your federal withholding (line 25, Form 1040).  Once everything is calculated to arrive at your total tax, then withholding will be used to reduce your total tax.   Schedule 2, part 2, line 11 (from Form 8959) is combined with any other special taxes and carried to Form 1040, line 23.  You can review your forms before you complete your return by using the steps below.   From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.) Select Tax Tools On the drop-down select Tools On the pop-up menu titled “Tools Center”, select View Tax Summary  On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040  For TurboTax Desktop, change to 'Forms' and review the forms.

Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible. Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity): W-2 income Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B IRS standard deduction Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Child Tax Credit (CTC) Student loan interest deduction Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions   Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return: Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers) Stock sales (including crypto investments) Income from rental property or property sales Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules        How can I see my TurboTax  fees?  https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons     (BEFORE you e-file) :   Remove Premium Services Remove MAX Defend & Restore Remove a state Remove PLUS Help & Support Remove Pay With Your Refund     Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

I don't agree with your response.  I have EXACTLY the same situation as lhopkins25.  My spouse had an HDHP for all of 2024 and the first 9 months of 2025.  Then had medicare the last three months of 2025.  Since they had an HDHP and HSA for all of 2024 and previous years, I do not believe the "last month rule" applies.   Turbo tax asks for the kind of HDHP coverage for each month of the prior year - 2024.  I filled in self  plan for each month and Turbo Tax computes income of $429 plus 10% penalty under the last month rule.   If I go back and change the Jan 2024 month to say they had "Medicare or None", then suddenly the additional income and penalty goes away.  So something is definitely wrong in TurboTax.

Kansas City Missouri has a city earnings tax, which is 1% of wages earned in the city for nonresidents.  Your employer is usually required to withhold the tax, which should appear in Box 19 of your W2.  If you see it there, you do not have to file a city tax return.  If your employer did not withhold, you would be required to file and pay the earnings tax.    For complete details, see Have You Paid Your KCMO Earnings Tax (E-Tax)?

If your W-2 doesn't have any info for overtime on box 14, don't enter anything during the W-2 input, you will compute it later.   After you have finished entering your W-2, continue through the interview, and you will have a list of uncommon situations to choose from- overtime is one of them. Check the box.   Then, follow these steps:   1. On the screen "Let's see if your overtime qualifies as tax-free," either select "Help me calculate my eligible overtime" or "No help needed—I know what to enter."  2. No matter which option you selected in Step 1, the next screen will ask if you were or were not an exempt employee.  Note that you must be non-exempt in order to be eligible for the overtime deduction. 3. Next, if you chose that you know what to enter, you will be asked to enter your deductible overtime from your employer, you can continue on, and TurboTax will compute the deduction, if you are eligible.  If you chose that you needed help, you will be asked what info you have about the overtime and will be guided through the computation.  Since your overtime was not on your W-2, you may have a letter from your employer, and if not, it is highly recommended to obtain and save your last paystub of the year.   The last paystub of the year is important to help you compute this, because only the overtime (the extra "half" in time-and-a-half is deductible.   Here is an article you may find helpful: No Tax on Overtime Explained: Qualified Overtime Deduction Rules for 2025

@ kayzelol  asked:  "I just bought Turbotax desktop for $120, it said I can file 5 free files. But adter installation, it said I can switch to online for free, it will be still 5 files?"   No.  An Online account can only prepare 1 Federal return per year.   It cannot handle multiple Federal returns.   Efiling of the 1 Federal return online is free, however.   That switch offer during installation also includes a state return, which is also free to efile.   If you have multiple Federal returns to prepare, it would be quite expensive online if they are all in paid editions.

To deduct travel mileage on Schedule C, you must leave from a business place, such a home office or place of business.  The idea is that the IRS does not allow people to deduct the mileage or commuter costs to get back and forth to work. You must be "working" when you start counting the miles   In order to deduct mileage you need a starting point.  If you have no office, you really can't deduct any mileage, only mileage to get from one game to the next.   I suggest you make a corner in the garage your home office, Keep your equipment and notebook there.  Use the Simplified Method to claim the home office, that will be based on the area and there will be no depreciation, so no worries later when you move or sell. Jot down where you are going in the notebook before you go and all the mileage from that point until you return from the game counts. You are working once you make an entry in the notebook. Yes, same for meetings, jot down the time you are leaving for the meetings in your work notebook and claim the mileage to and from the meeting.

When your 2024 return was rejected you were sent an email with a rejection message or rejection code; we hav enough access to your emails so we do not know why it was rejected.  Most rejections are for AGI.   AGI no longer matters, because you only need it to e-file.      The only way to file your 2024 return now is by mail.   Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
