Thanks for the advice. I have not look at this since Saturday due to my frustration. I will follow your instructions this weekend and if that does not work then I am going to start the whole return from scratch without data transfer since I have seen a boat load of complaints on other bulletin boards/blogs complaining about this same issue.

"I find the Turbo Tax 2025 Home and Business Desk is not considering the 401k Roth conversions when calculating MAGI for the Roth IRA contribution limit."   TurboTax is behaving correctly.  In-plan Roth Rollovers are not to be subtracted from AGI.  Only conversions to a Roth IRA are to be subtracted.  IRRs have never been permitted to be subtracted from AGI.

There are many reasons you could have a small refund even with 3 dependents.    How old are your dependents, are they qualifying children and how much did you earn? Simply having dependents does not guarantee a large refund, refunds are based on your earned income, status of your dependents, your filing status, taxes you had withheld and credits and deductions you qualify for.      1) If your children are all under 17 and they qualify as qualifying children for the Child Tax Credit, then the most likely reason you are not seeing a large refund is either your income is limiting the credit, or one of the questions you answered about the children are incorrect.   The 2025 Child Tax credit is a nonrefundable credit worth up to $2,200 per qualifying child. In order to qualify for  this credit, you must first have a qualifying child, have a tax liability to be reduced by the credit and have income of less than $200,000 if single and $400,000 if married filing jointly. If your income is greater than  these limits, the credit is phased out gradually.  If you do not have a high enough tax liability to claim the credit, then you may be eligible to claim the Additional  Child Tax Credit. To claim the Additional Child Tax Credit, However,  you must have income of at least $2,500. This credit is the refundable portion of the child tax credit. It is worth up to $1,700 per qualifying child.    It is calculated by subtracting $2,500 from your income and then multiplying that number by 15%. If  you do not have more than $2,500 of eligible income, you would not qualify for the Additional Child Tax  Credit. So if your total income was $3,350 then you would have an additional child tax credit of $127.50  If your dependents are 17 or older, they do not qualify for the child tax credit.  They would only qualify for the $500 Non-Refundable Other Dependent Credit .     2) If this is something new and you did not owe in previous years, it is likely because your tax situation changed or you made an error in your entries.  If nothing changed, then you can go back and compare your return from last year to this year to see where the difference is coming from (compare the withholdings, types of credits, income, etc) .  Click here for instructions on how to see your 1040 online.  If you use the desktop version, you can just click on Forms mode at the top of the page.   A few things you can check if you think you should have received the child tax credit and you didn't.   Double check your entries starting with the personal info section making sure you have entered all  information including social security numbers for your kids.  Did your child live with you for 6 months or more during the year? If not, you do not qualify. If  your child was born during the tax year, you will need to select that they lived with you for the entire year.  Did you enter your income? Did you double check your entries? You need to have income to get the  credit, so if you do not have in excess of $2,500 or you have income above the phaseout, you may not  qualify for the credit.    3) Another reason could be if you were self-employed (even doing gig work like Uber or Door Dash) and had to pay the 15.3% Self-Employment tax.  This could have offset credits you did receive.  Example.  If you had $4,600 in SE taxes that you owe, and fully qualified for the $5,400 in child tax credit, your refund would only be $800. 4) If your employer did not withhold enough taxes or you listed yourself as exempt on your W-4, this would also reduce your refund.  If on step 3 line a of your W-4, you entered $6,600, your employer would have decreased your withholdings.  This basically gives you the Child Tax Credit in advance by withholding less throughout the year.  If you are sure your children will all qualify for the credit, then this simply lowers your refund.  However, if they turn 17 during the year, then be sure to change your W-4 so your withholdings are properly adjusted.

Today is February 24, 2026, and still no updates on the desktop version.  Happy for all of those who chose the on-line version since it appears that you have gotten the necessary updates.   For me, the clock is ticking.  March 1st is a hard deadline.  Then never again. The only responses so far from TT to me (when I've even been able to speak to a representative) since I began this journey a number of weeks ago has been: 1.  don't file your 1099Qs you received (which CPAs have told me is terrible advice) 2.  we don't have any time horizon on any updates related to your concern   No other communication has been received from TT.  Wouldn't you think that they would be professional enough to at least send out an APB to let their customers know of the situation?    Personally, I hate it for those who are doing their taxes, don't realize that they are not being prompted to input expenses to offset their 1099Q distributions from 529s or Coverdell Savings Accts . . . thus paying extra in taxes and fees for a software glitch in TT (which now is only penalizing those who didn't purchase the on-line version).   I understand that circumstances can happen, but good organizations are proactive in communicating their information to their customers.  Customers are inclined to be more patient when they are informed that the company is experiencing a problem and are proactively working to resolve it.  The only reason that I know that the company is working to fix the problem is from you wonderful people who have added a comment in this discussion thread . . . it's a customer telling another customer that there is a problem, not the company sending our communication. TT's website says: 100% Calculations Guarantee Maximum Refund Guarantee SMH   Four days left . . . and counting.

You have to enter your Prior Year Roth IRA Contributions as distributions of Roth Contributions are not taxable.   As this is a return of excess contributions, your prior year contributions must be greater than $8,000.   After you have entered your form 1099-R, TurboTax will take you to the summary page titled Your 1099-R Entries.   On that page, click Continue and follow the TurboTax interview until you arrive at the page titled Enter Prior Year Roth IRA Contributions where you can enter the amount of your past contributions.

Yuuuuup. Having that same issue. I got to the end where I was selecting where my deposit would go, realized it was on there and looked up how to downgrade but because I've already "submitted" my payment (I haven't even pressed the file button yet), I can't restart my form and I'm just... stuck.
We'd love to help! Can you clarify your situation or the problem you're having?
My recollection is that the form is available late each year.  Unfortunately I can find no suggestion that it might be forthcoming.  But I cannot find it in this year's package.
