@chag2020 generally if you have any adjustments to the sale summary (wash sales, AMD etc) or noncovered categories where cost basis is not reported to the IRS, that will trigger the need to send in the details using Form 8453.  What's asked for on that form is "Form 8949, Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets (or a statement with the same information), if you elect not to report your transactions electronically on Form 8949"   note also the full 1099B is not required, you don't need to include unadjusted Box A or Box D transactions. https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/need-fill-mail-form-8949/L5F3HsRJd_US_en_US   you can avoid the mailing by splitting up your 1099B and input these items as "one by one" with the details, and input the balance of your 1099B as summary level, and then check the combined totals on Schedule D line up with your original 1099B.  Whether this is feasible depends how many of these items you have, I've done 50 or so to have a clean e-file and avoid the mailing, it doesn't take long to do.   as well as the on-screen messages, if you are using Desktop you can see the status at the bottom of the Capital Asset Sales Worksheet whether the mailing is required or not.   if you are using Online, you can also attach the details electronically as an upload (attachment, not an import) to satisfy this mail-in requirement.   more here   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/form-1099-b/need-include-1099-b-return/L0ygGdIiE_US_en_US

Thank you. I figured as much. It was so suspicious because why would I need to upload anything if my forms are already there? They need to try harder… smh

@user17708937965 your 1099-R itself sounds fine so I don't think this is a Vanguard issue - 2(a) should have a value and I don't think the other 'total distribution' checkbox in 2(b) matters.   so what's happening on your 8606 - what is on line 8?  that should show the $7002 from the 1099-R.  if not it's still some sort of issue with those questions about the 1099-R so I would go back through those (I'm sure you have).  I would try deleting the 1099-R and input again (or input a 2nd one first and see what happens).   if you are on desktop in Forms mode at the bottom of the 1099-R in section B you should see values in B4-6 identifying it as a conversion.  double-clicking on line 8 of Form 8606 will show the associated 1099-Rs.
I’m trying to revisit my return but it keeps showing a check mark by it not letting me edit anything

Yes it finally worked this morning 2/25. I did have to process ALL the accounts in the new import as doing one at a time erases the prior results.
The subject is 2025. The answer is 2024. Confused!
