@ shalomb As you're seeing, the 5-digit signing PIN is not related to the 6-digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) which is entered in a different place in the interview. The 5-digit PIN is how you "sign" your return, and you are correct that it can transfer in from last year's data file when available. If you don't have it, it's no problem. It's entered on a screen with your birth date and today's date. The signing screen says to "enter any 5 digits of your choice" except can't be all zeros. So one can even use a new 5-digit signing PIN every year if desired. A lot of people don't save it from year to year, or switch computers, product platforms, etc., but can easily make a new one. By the way, if you are using the desktop Home and Business Edition, it differs a little from the other desktop products. In the Home and Business product, to get to the IP PIN entry, one would first go to the Personal tab, then to subtab Other Tax Situations, and scroll down to Other Return Info. In the other desktop products, one starts with the Federal Taxes tab. If you still can't find it, I can post an image, but would need to know if you are using desktop TurboTax or Online TurboTax. And if desktop TurboTax, if it's Home and Business or one of the other editions.
