@splitifnger09
Yes, I'm sure. The deduction for charitable contributions for non-itemizers, which starts in 2026, is a below-the-line deduction. Where did you read that it lowers AGI? If it's an online source, please post a link. Social media and AI are not reliable sources of information about income tax rules.

An update, everyone. Tonight I finally had some updates push on the desktop version and that resolved the Form 8959 error, and I was able to submit the filing. A warning, however! Before you push the updates, make sure you save a copy of your completed draft return tax forms on your computer because my progress had dropped out after the updates installed and I restarted the TurboTax program - and thankfully, I was able to open and load the returns/forms from my computer instead of having to start again in the desktop program.

My apologies if you are not a Turbotax stooge/apologist. I'm very angry about this situation. I never agreed to have my tax refund shot into the ether where I could never retrieve it. I entered my checking account, as always, and Turbotax pulled a bait and switch. Maybe this year I use HR Block.

While going into forms mode to access 1099-R directly allows you to enter the data, it completely bypasses any sort of guidance. TurboTax has become just form filler software at that point, and it is more expensive and less user friendly than other form filler tax prep applications. Changes due to OBBB is a red herring. Nothing structural changed with qualified account distributions, and that legislation became law six months ago. Even in 2017, when taxes changed dramatically even closer to the end of the tax year, Intuit got TurboTax ready. Something else is going on here, and I wish Intuit would address it.

@ktrush512 This is not TurboTax Support. We are fellow users voluntarily helping you. We can't know anything specific about your account or refund choices. We only know that MVB bank is commonly the bank used for things to do with Credit Karma Money Spend. You will need to contact Credit Karma and see if they can assist you in locating it. If you need additional assistance, here's how to reach TurboTax Support, and you can discuss with them how Credit Karma's bank came to be involved. https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/contact/

Following up. I did call support and they confirmed that there was an account linked to my previous purchases (since 1998) but that it was marked inactive because of an unknown 'security' issue. They suggested I contact security by email which I did on January 12. I asked them to reactivate my previous account and delete the new one I created with the same email. No answer from them yet. I'll post updates here if there are any...

Or if you signed up last year for the "5 day early" refund option, that also had an option last year to go through a Credit Karma Money Spend account (handled by MVB.)

You can install the Desktop program on 5 computers you own. Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account when you first install it, all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac) you can download it again. And the download will have all the updates. Sign onto your account here to download the program and to get the license code https://accounts.intuit.com/app/account-manager/productsBilling/turbotax

@ktrush512 Did you get a refund advance loan? If so, then your refund had to go to a Credit Karma account.

Hi I have a question for my S-corp. S-corporation was formed on 01/03/2022 in California and operated there until 01/29/2025, when it moved to Virginia. From 01/01/2025 to 01/29/2025, the company had $1,500 of income and $3,500 of expenses. As in prior years, the company also has depreciation on three assets. The date in service for three assets is for 2023 and they ( office improvement - furniture and an equipment) furniture and an equipment moved to VA but office improvement remained in CA. S-corporation has only one shareholder, I live in Virginia as resident as of 01/01/2025. On 01/29/2025, I started S-corporation in Virginia, and on the same day terminated/withdrew the S-corporation from California. I understand that I should file one federal return and two state returns (California and Virginia). I need help understanding how to correctly file the federal, California, and Virginia returns, making sure that California income is limited to the 29-day period. The numbers in CA return are different the Federal return!! FTB and VA TAX DEPARTMENT may shocked because of this discrepancy. Also, what should I do for depreciation assets.

The fed form will not take more than 6 digits. The state form uses the fed form info but it needs 9 digits.

if you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund then the banking information on the tax form is the information to send your refund to the third party bank. That bank gets your refund first from the IRS. They take out your TurboTax fees and send the rest to you---and that bank has YOUR direct deposit information.
Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.
