Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible. Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity): W-2 income Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B IRS standard deduction Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Child Tax Credit (CTC) Student loan interest deduction Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions   Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return: Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers) Stock sales (including crypto investments) Income from rental property or property sales Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules  1095A for marketplace health insurance     How can I see my TurboTax  fees?  https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons     (BEFORE you e-file) :   Remove Premium Services Remove MAX Defend & Restore Remove a state Remove PLUS Help & Support Remove Pay With Your Refund     Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

On a Section 216 return, the total non-resident tax withheld is claimed on line 43700 of Form T1159.  To file a Section 216 return, you must use the information from your NR4 slip:  You report the gross income from Box 16 and claim the tax withheld from Box 17 on Line 43700 of the T1159 return. In TurboTax Online: Rental Income: Navigate to the Rental Income & Expenses section (Form T776) to enter your gross income and expenses. Inputting the Withholding: Since TurboTax may not have a dedicated NR4 box for Section 216 in the same way it does for residents, you may need to enter the tax withheld from Box 17 of your NR4 slip into the "Tax Withheld" field often found in the T4A or Investment Income sections, or directly on the summary page for non-resident taxes if using a specific non-resident version of the software.  Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Did you or will you get a tax form for the money that you earned - a W-2, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, or other form? Wait until you get the form. They have until the end of January to send it to you. When you get the form, if you have trouble entering it in TurboTax post back here and tell us what kind of form you got and what box of the form has the income in it. If you do not get a form by early February, or you are 100% sure that you will not get a form, the income should go on Form 1040 line 1h, "Other earned income," not on Schedule 1. Here's how to enter it in TurboTax. This section is not yet ready in TurboTax for 2025. Check back in a couple of weeks.   Go to Federal Taxes > Wages & Income > Less Common Income > Miscellaneous Income > Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099. The first screen asks "Did you receive any other wages?" Answer Yes. The next three screens ask about income as a household employee, sick or disability pay, and Medicaid waiver payments. Click Continue on these screens without entering anything. The next screen, Any Other Earned Income, asks "Did you earn any other wages?" Answer Yes. The next screen asks for the source of the other earned income. Select Other. On the next screen enter a short description, such as "Election worker," and enter the amount. Click Done.

I was going to have fiduciary eft the $150 in taxes due. That's what I would do. If you report this on your 1040 for some reason, you won't be able to deduct the legal fees, which you will on a 1041. Simple manual is the way to go.
