@TurboTaxSusan  "Our development team is looking into this issue" dated March 22.  One month later and the problem is still not resolved 😠   Thanks for the workaround, but this is an obvious TT error and it should be fixed ASAP!  Your customer shouldn't be required to perform a convoluted override on a Schedule for a standard option.  Some users have said the override caused a problem with Netfile.
In my return the GST seems to be given to me but I would rather have it given to my spouse. Is there a way to change this?

If you previously saw error code 95033 when you attempted to file before April 16th, the error was due to a CRA issue affecting all tax software in Canada. You can fill out Schedule C and enter 1099NEC, Cash or Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Premium or use any of the Desktop CD/Download programs. All the Desktop programs have the same forms, so you can buy a lower version.  You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.   How to enter income from Self Employment https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/self-employed/help/how-do-i-report-income-from-self-employment/00/26653

Thanks @Vanessa A. I'll file for each year going back to 2020 then. Can I file all of those at basically the same time: 2020 then 2021 then 2022 then 2023?    I'm still unsure about your example, why would you use $3000 on the 2021 return if you had no gains? Why wouldn't you just file each year, adding the current year passive losses to the carryover losses?    If I get TurboTax Live, would they be able to help with entering all of this into the state returns?

I'm having a VERY similar issue. I've used TurboTax tax the past 2 years with no issues. This year was a MESS. It was clearly a system error and they inputted the the wrong card info for me. Finally after waiting on hold for hours and speaking to multiple agents, a representative helped me and directed me to the refund request site and told me I should get a refund based on what I was telling her and what she could see on her end (she couldn't view all the info due to their privacy procedures). A few hours later I receive an email saying that my refund request was denied with there generic copy and pasted explanation that "all online system sales are final, blah blah". Are you kidding? I was charged  for filing my Maryland state taxes, but TurboTax routed my state payment to an incorrect, unauthorized stock account (which I only had on file to easily access my 1099) . As a result, my payment failed and I was not notified.  This error caused me to incur a penalty from the Maryland Comptroller for a “bad check.” due to insufficient funds (because of the system error mixing up the accounts).  I was also charged a Refund Processing Fee, despite my Refund Processing Agreement in my 1040 clearly stating $0.00 at the time of filing. I have record of all of this. I'm still waiting to hear back from the support team, but it looks like I'll be filing complaints with the IRS, CFPB, and BBB, and telling anyone I know to STAY AWAY.
Thank you.  I will contact Costco.ca then.
Thank you!!

The estimated taxes you didn’t pay were just estimates towards the tax due on your income.  The IRS wasn’t expecting them.   They are like withholding you have taken out of your paychecks if you are an employee.   They are not the actual tax.  So you will still owe the tax on your return.   Are you filing self employment?   Estimated taxes are usually for self employment income.  You will pay Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) on a Net Profit of $400 or more on Schedule C in addition to regular income tax on it.   You pay 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit (If it is greater than $400).  The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare.  So you get social security credit for it when you retire.

 Q. Can I claim the  AOC credit? A. Yes. There is a tax “loop hole” available to claim an education credit, for the parents of students on scholarship. The student reports all his scholarship, up to the amount needed to claim the American Opportunity Credit (AOC), as income on his return. That way, the parents  (or himself, if he is not a dependent) can claim the tuition credit on their return. They can do this because that much tuition was no longer paid by "tax free" scholarship.  You cannot do this  if the conditions of the grant are that it be used to pay for qualified expenses. Using your numbers for an example: Student has $24,000 in box 5 of the 1098-T and $10,600 in box 1. At first glance he/she has $13,400 of taxable income and nobody can claim the American opportunity credit. But if she reports $17,400 as income on her return, the parents can claim $4000 of qualified expenses on their return. Books and computers are also qualifying expenses for the AOC. So, extending the example, the student had another $1500 in expenses for those course materials, paid out of pocket. She would only need to report $15,900 of taxable scholarship income, instead of $17,400. The IRS actually encourages use of this technique. From the form 1040 instructions: “You may be able to increase an education credit if the student chooses to include all or part of a Pell grant or certain other scholarships or fellowships in income. For more information, see Pub. 970, the instructions for Form 1040 and IRS.gov/EdCredit".  PUB 970 even has examples of how to do the “loop hole”.
