The issue is with the software. It considers me covered for a retirement plan while I am not covered. How can I fix that I am not covered by a retirement plan?

revised carryforward amounts must be manually entered on the next year's tax return, if you did not start that return by importing the revised previous tax return.

"If you e-file your return but choose not to report each transaction on a separate row on the electronic return, you must attach Form 8949 to Form 8453 (or the appropriate form in the Form 8453 series) and mail the forms to the IRS."
IRS - Instructions for Form 8949 (2024)
"Use Form 8453 to send any required paper forms or supporting documentation listed next to the checkboxes on Form 8453."
Form 8453 - U.S. Individual Income Tax Transmittal for an IRS e-file Return
Since you DID list each transaction separately, you do NOT need to mail in Form 8949 nor Form 8453.

You can apply for a payment plan (Form 9465) at the IRS Payment Plans and Installment Agreements website. Make sure you've filed your return before applying through their site.
Most states offer an installment payment plan as well, although the procedure varies from state to state. You can contact your state Department of Revenue for details.
The IRS does charge a user fee for setting up or reinstating an installment agreement.

On TurboTax 2025 Desktop Windows I was not offered a chance to review Federal underpayment penalty. I did receive this notice for the State of Michigan return when I got to that point. I only noticed the Federal penalty at that point as I was looking at the year-over-year comparison summary.

You can file your extension at our Easy Extension website.
An extension gives you until October 15, 2025 to file your taxes instead of the tax deadline of April 15, 2025. You must file an extension by April 15, 2025 to get extra time to file your taxes without a penalty. There's no further extension past October 15, 2025.
An extension does not give you extra time to pay your taxes, which are due on April 15, 2025. Even if you can't pay your taxes by the deadline, file an extension anyway so you can avoid the late-filing penalty.

Just terrible and dishonest. I've used Turbo Tax for decades and decided to stay with it this year because of the supposed free Federal prep, which ended up costing me $79, because apparently, I must have entered an item that boosted my return out of the free category. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO NOTIFICATION OF WHEN AND WHY THIS HAPPENED DURING THE PROCESS, AND OH, BY THE WAY, THEY WANT ANOTHER $40 FOR ME TO PAY WITH MY REFUND. Nice FREE $119 Federal tax return TurboTax! You have lost a longtime customer. Really a crappy way to treat people. This will be remembered next year!
