I thought I'd be able to use Turbo Tax to file an extension and it would be quick, easy and free. They don't seem to be helpful with this.

The refund from 2022 was either sent to you or paid forward towards your 2023 taxes. If it was sent to you then you already received it. If it was applied to your 2023 return then it was used or refunded for that year. You can't claim a 2022 refund on your 2024 taxes.

https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/school_district/orange.htm ^ Website to look it up so you can enter the code in the box provided right after the question. That page you're looking at can't be edited and not the best place to fix it. You should follow these steps: Log into account --> Go to State Returns --> Edit (New York) --> continue to general information; General Information Residency, county, school district, Residency and state general information Learn More (click) --> Update (answer all questions) click until you get to Tell us your New York County (answer) then continue to next screen Tell us your New York School District and continue (end of error)

Let me ask an expert to answer @dmertz could you assist. The issue is a 401(k) rollover to an IRA but the user withdrew some funds and needs to know how to account for those funds.

Was this an excess reported by TurboTax while doing your 2024 return (or was it from 2023?).
When TurboTax told you that you had excess contributions, it gave you the option of withdrawing all, some, or none. Which did you choose?
The penalty is applied only to excess contributions that you did not withdraw. These will be carried over to line 2, form 8889 on your 2025 return, and you will be charged a 6% penalty on the carryover. In this case, be sure to reduce your HSA contributions in 2025 to allow for this carryover.
So please confirm that these were excess contributions from tax year 2024, and tell me what you told TurboTax about the excess: withdrawing all, some, or none.

Relating to entering information from my 1099-R....After I enter the amount for "RMD due by Dec. 31, 2024", the next screen wants me to check an option of whether A). "The entire distribution applied to the Dec. 31, 2024 RMD" or if it is B) "some of the distribution..." or C) "None of the distribution." Is TT actually asking me if I have received all of the RMD by Dec. 31., 2024? Also, I am assuming the RMD is calculated correctly by the Wisconsin Retirement System and that would equal the amount in Box 1. Thanks for your help!

This will extend the time you have to file your taxes until October 15th, 2025.
On the left rail menu in TurboTax Online Select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)
On the drop-down select Tools
On the Pop-Up menu titled “Tools Center,” select File an extension
Follow the instructions to start the extension process
Also, you may have to do your state taxes: Do I need to file an extension for my personal state taxes?
Remember, an extension gives you more time to prepare your taxes, but it doesn't extend the time to pay your taxes. If you have an indication that you will owe taxes, you should make the payment by the original due date of the tax return to avoid additional interest and penalties.
