Do you want to make this election for the estate?   That means the estate would recognize any gain on the sale of estate property and then distribute it, in-kind, to the beneficiaries at FMV.

I was thinking of switching to TT Online this year, but I can't believe that you need a separate User ID for each return. My mother-in-law doesn't have a computer, no email, yet I would have to create an email address for her in order to file her taxes? Same with my mom.    I guess I'll have to download desktop then. What a stupid requirement.

TurboTax 2025/Mac doesn't display the .tax2024 files saved on the machine, and when "Find your tax return" is clicked and the .tax2024 file identified to TurboTax 2025, the application performs an error chime and does nothing.   Online I saw some people discussing pointing TurboTax at TT-generated PDFs for import, and that doesn't work. The .tax2024 files open fine in TurboTax 2024, so they're not corrupted. The problem is TurboTax 2025 failing or refusing to perform a function TurboTax 2025 is advertised to perform.   Ideas?

I am ready to file form 1041, but still need to troubleshoot 1 item -   The box for 643 (e) (3) election is not checked on page 2. IRS instructions indicated including Schedule D form with return and attaching a statement indicating the Estate would like to make this election.   I'm a bit confused. Could someone clarify?   thanks for your help...

I took a video today and posted on turbotax canada fb page and sent them a dm about this I paid for the TurboTax Tax Expert service and began entering my 2024 tax information. When I reached the document‑upload section, the uploader would not work on any browser I tried. After multiple attempts, the system repeatedly kicked me out of my account. Each time I logged back in or refreshed, TurboTax redirected me to the 2025 tax year instead of the 2024 return I was working on. My 2024 return did not appear under “Started” or “Resume,” making it impossible to continue. On top of that, I had trouble logging into my profile at all — the platform was unstable and inconsistent throughout the entire process. This should have been a straightforward, simple experience, especially after paying for the Tax Expert service. Instead, it was frustrating, time‑consuming, and unreliable. Because of these issues, I submitted a refund request.
I think it's safe to say that most users posting here re the desktop versions not supporting Windows 10 do not want to use an online version of TurboTax or any other tax prep company.

@jimmceachern12030    You can split that gift with your wife, yes, if you gave your son more than $19,000 from YOUR individual account.

I took $26,000 from my ira and had taxes taken out at the time of withdrawal.  It was deposited into my bank account.  I then wrote one check to my son for the whole amount even though my wife and I are both giving the gift to our son. On form 709 even though I gave only one check, do I need to show my wife aggreed to the gift? Thanks for your help, Jim

Was thinking my wife and I could both give $13,000 each or do just one of us have to claim all of it to the irs? In either case do we need to file form 709? Thanks for your help, Jim The annual gift exclusion in 2025 was $19,000.  So if both you and your spouse, separately, gave your son $13,000 each there is no requirement to file a Form 709.

Thanks! I am a qualified family member, thank goodness for that option.

Thank you! this is what i needed to know. We will be together for Christmas, so we can log into her account and obtain info. I will go ahead and upload 8821 (maybe 2848) in case I need to ask for documents not available online. I understand about the refunds :( Ordinarily, I would expect her not to owe money, but there are 2 considerations: Health care subsidies and any1099-Cs that may be lurking out there.   Thank you again!
