Apply for a Flex Loan https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-loan What is the Turbo Tax Flex Advance? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/loans/whats-turbotax-flex-advance/L2Xg6In6b_US_en_US?uid=mhz8qpz8 The Refund Advance usually starts in January and just when you are ready to file. And only if they offered it to you. You can't self select it. Then you don't get it until AFTER your efile is Accepted by the IRS which is usually late January. https://turbotax.intuit.com/refund-advance

I have never used TT online versions, to be exact, and will NOT, going forward. I download TT software to my laptop each year. Cheers! JJ

Hi "VolvoGirl"! Sure value the quick response. Now, from some of your other responses to other people, I am assuming that you have actually done this already and thus can unequivocally state that I won't have a problem, correct? Indeed, under "Documents\TurboTax", I do see filing documents (PDFs as I save filings - by fault - as PDF every year) from prior years. That said, there is no need to worry about the incompatibility between TT SOFTWARE versions (Windows 10/Windows11) and TT2025 would be able to import DATA from those PDF files, correct? I was a little confused by "to view your return" that you wrote as, I am not necessarily needing to VIEW but rather need to have TT2025 IMPORT all the DATA automatically. Cheers! JJ

I applied and it's stuck on pending and that i will receive a call to finish application. What was the point of allowing folks to apply to just never move on the loans. Crazy

@juham2013 Also will you want to install the 2024 program or prior on the new computer? Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account when you first install it, all your downloads and license codes are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac) you can download it again here, https://accounts.intuit.com/app/account-manager/productsBilling/turbotax See this article on how to move your tax return to another computer……. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-data-file/help/how-do-i-move-my-tax-data-file-to-another-computer/00/26128

@juham2013 Nothing has changed. You can Transfer 2024 data into 2025, either to the desktop program or to online. You just need to copy the tax return data file to the new computer. You only need the tax return data file ending in .tax2023 to transfer into 2024 or .tax2024 to transfer into next year. You can't transfer the programs. They have to be installed from the CD or Download. You don't need to install older programs unless you need to amend or you didn't save the pdf file. And they only support the last 3 years. If you install an older year you won't be able to update it or download any state programs, so you won't be able to open your return. For Windows…..What I would do on the old computer, is copy the whole Turbo Tax folder that is under your Documents. That should be where the .tax files and pdf files are stored. Also if you haven't done it, I would open each year in the program and save it as a pdf file, go to FILE - SAVE TO PDF so you don't need the program installed to view your return. Copy that folder to a flash drive or best yet is to burn it to a CD or DVD and then you will have a backup of them. Then on the new computer copy the folder (or files) from the flash drive to your Documents folder.

Oodles of responses here which I scanned through quickly. I suppose that TT is trying to FORCE people to file taxes NOT using downloaded versions of TT! The laptop which has Windows 10 Home edition on it that I have used for filing my taxes via a downloaded version of TT for many years is not compatible with Windows 11. It would appear that I need to buy a new lap-top. Now, could someone confirm to me the following? 1. How will TT 2025 be able to import ANY data from my tax filing from 2024 that was done using TT2024 software as TT2025 and TT2024 are installed on TWO different lap-tops? 2. I believe the answer to the above is - NO, TT2025 won't be able to import ANY DATA. IF, indeed, the answer is NO, that really sucks as one of the great features has been to be able to have TT software automatically import DATA from previous years! Data from sale of stock for instance, especially those sales that were made at a LOSS that carry over. I would value suggestions and answers very much? JJ

How to determine if my computer is in S mode
To determine if your computer is in S mode, follow these steps:
Open the (PC) Settings app by clicking the Start button or pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.
Go to System and then select About (at the bottom you may have to scroll down to see it).
Look for the Windows specifications section (at the bottom you may have to scroll down to see it). If your system is in S mode, it will indicate that your Windows is running in S mode, such as "Windows 11 Home in S mode" or "Windows 11 Pro in S mode".
If you need to switch out of S mode, you can do so through the Settings app by selecting Privacy & Security and then Activation. From there, you can choose to switch to Windows 10/11 Home or Windows 11 Pro, which will allow you to install apps from outside the Microsoft Store

And....what tax years are those W-2's for? Employers will not be issuing W-2's for 2025 until sometime in January. Do you mean you have some W-2's from past years? What years?
If you have W-2's from past years, you will need to use local paid tax help or if you want to use TurboTax, you need the software for the correct years.
Each tax year has to be filed separately using the forms for the specific tax year. They cannot be combined in any way--do not even put them in the same envelope when you mail them. Software for past years is available back to 2022. Any earlier years can only be prepared on paper forms by hand--and those refunds have been forfeited now.
Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and 2024 is permanently closed.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.
To file a return for a prior tax year
If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
