hears a link to determine if your cpu can run under w11
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/windows-processor-requirements
then there is online both Turbiotax and others
you could also buy a cheap laptop w11 ready and hook it up to your monitor
don't know what other vendors of self-prepared tax returns will do.

Unless it was reported to you on a W2 a taxable scholarship generally counts as unearned income. Unearned income is not usable as a qualification for an IRA contribution.
If it was reported to you on a W2 in box 1, however, it is earned income and can be used for the IRA contribution.

I am using the 2022 Turbo Tax Desktop software on a Windows 10 Platform. The TurboTax software recognizes my financial institution (UBS) as one of the options to download from. However, I get an error message- "1099 Forms not available for user ID." I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with UBS or more specifically with any financial institution when trying to download into prior year (in this case 2022) Turbo Tax Desktop Software?

This seems very cumbersome & complicates Form 116 as I have Interest & Dividends that attracted foreign taxes. It also conflicts with reporting Canadian RIFFs. Turbo tax needs to create a separate category to handle Private Canadian Pensions with taxes withheld along with RIFF's where taxes are withheld providing boxes to record both the income & Tax withheld. In Tubo Tax Reporting under Pension Plans & using 99-999999 as the tax payer ID works within Turbo tax - not sure how the IRS will handle

Had you payment been applied to your account before doing the amendment? The amendment should taken into account what was paid with the previous (original) filing and be included as a payment when calculating your new balance due/refund.
You will need to contact the IRS for information. It might be easiest to set up an account with them.
IRS Individual Online Account
Taxpayers with a Social Security number or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number can create or access their IRS Individual Online Account to get information they need to file their return.
With an IRS Individual Online Account, people can:
View balance owed, payment history and schedule payments.
Cancel scheduled payments.
Get transcripts.
View or create payment plans.
See digital copies of some IRS notices.
View key data from their most recently filed tax return, including adjusted gross income.
Validate bank accounts and save multiple accounts, eliminating the need to re-enter bank account information every time they make a payment.
View, approve and electronically sign power of attorney and tax information authorizations from their tax professional.

Hi, I work primarily as W2 . This year I started taking 1099 side gig as sole proprietorship (NOT LLC). I have two cars under my name: a Toyota and a Volvo. The Volvo xc60 I bought in 2023 and have placed into 100% business use 2025. My question: 1. For 2025 tax return, can I use bonus depreciation plus straight-line? I'm not sure as the year of purchase and placement in service are different 2. If in 2 years or so, I decide to transfer my Volvo to personal use, i.e., still under my name. I would be subject to recapture. Do I pay recapture when I make the transfer or when I sell the call, say like 10 years later? I'm hoping to limit my recapture amount if IRS allows recapture at sale (lower faire market price after personal use) Thanks

I know TurobTax gives you a blended tax rate and an effective tax rate, but where are you seeing marginal tax rate?
The Blended tax rate is calculated under Federal / Federal Review.
To access it, all questions must be answered in the Federal Review.
At the end of the questions. Look at the bottom of the screen
It will say Get a detailed view of your numbers.
The Blended Tax rate is:
Tax liability (Including SE tax, capital gain and special taxes),
Divided by
Taxable income (Total income minus deductions, but before credits).
(All line numbers are on form 1040).
The Effective Tax rate is your:
Total income (line 9)
Deductions (Line 12) This is Itemized or Standard
Taxable Income (Line 9 – Line 12)
Blended Tax Rate (Tax Liability [below] / Taxable Income [above])
Tax Liability (Line 16 + Line 23)
Taxes Paid (line 25d) Credits (Line 21) Total Tax Paid (Line 21 + Line 25d) Refund/Due (Line 34 or Line 37)
Effective tax rate doesn't consider SE tax and any penalties, and blended tax rate does. Blended tax rate is a confusing and unnecessary term to be using in TT, and gets everybody all upset.
You can compute it yourself with a calculator.
Effective tax rate is something Turbo Tax uses to help you see where you stand; to see which W-2 may be deficient in withholding the correct amount of Federal tax, etc.
It should be the tax divided by the total income, not the AGI. It is a number without any real value other than just to let you know when you earn $1, about x% is taxed.
