Is anyone else experiencing constant delays in the processing of their 2024 1040 and or 1040X ? My 1040 was accepted 1-29-25 & included my current personal pin number. On 3-4-25 I received Letter 5071C from the IRS requesting identity verification. I had to go into the local office to verify I was the one that efiled my own 1040. Then I was told they needed more time. TAS got involved. Then the IRS wanted letters from some of the casinos verifying the wins & fed withholding. On 3-27-25 I sent in the letters along with a 1040X amended because I'd made an error and missed one. TAS was helping at this time and told me to efile that 1040X AND mail it into IRS with copies of the letters. TAS then had to close the case file since there was a 1040X filed. The 1040X was accepted 4-1-25, finally. Then 4-21-25, the IRS sent Letter 4883C asking me to verify my identity AGAIN. I verified again. Then the IRS said they needed more time. So far it all sounds standard. However still, not all the casinos are listed on my IRS account online, under the Tax Information Filed. Today my IRS account is still missing one of the casino amounts (not the one that caused me to file the 1040X). IRS said I should call TAS and ask them to reopen the case. I did. TAS says they can't help anyone with a 1040X until JUNE and suggested I contact my Congressman for a 'Congressional Referral'. So I did. The Congressmans office responded to my email the next day. They said a liaison would help and I should give them all my information on my situation so far. I did. This office contacted me again on 4-30-25 stating the liaison had contacted IRS 4-29-25 and they'd be in touch to update me as the file moved forward. They wanted me to let them know if anything new happened. On 4-29-25 I received Letter 2645C stating the IRS needed "an additional 60 days to send me a complete response on what action they are taking on my account". Of course there's a little more to this entire situation than these basic steps, but then I'd b writing a short book. Just wondering if anyone else has been waiting this long ??

Hello, my filing was rejected and I need to fix it. I used the desktop version but my tax2024 file and pdf file is corrupt. It won’t open up in the TurboTax 2024 software. Any advice on how to fix? Should I redo it from scratch? I’ve already paid the state filing and audit defense fees.
It might be saying your employer took out too much Social Security tax in W2 box 4.   Or did you enter more than 1 W2?   You might have paid over the max Social Security tax.

When you are entering income on a joint return, every income entry screen will either have a spot with both spouse’s names there, or when you click to enter a W-2, 1099R, etc. it will ask you by name which spouse it is for.  You do not have to wait for the software to “ask” you for your spouse’s income. Go to the screens to enter your spouse’s W-2’s, 1099’s, etc. just like you did for your own income.  Then look for your spouse’s name there.     To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.   The screen will ask you which spouse the 1099R is for.

If your incarcerated sibling does not meet the criteria mentioned by Champ @Mike9241 then, no, you cannot claim someone who is incarcerated as a dependent.   In order to claim a dependent you have to provide over half their support----so their support  (which even at the low end is well over $40,000 per year on average) is being paid for by the correctional facility and the tax dollars that pay to keep it in operation.   Money you spend to provide for their incidental expenses, etc. is a gift, which is not deductible.

It depends on the kind of information you need to enter.    Very simple returns that only require a Form 1040 and no other forms or schedules can be prepared using the Free Edition.   If you have information that requires extra schedules or forms, then you have to upgrade to a paid version of the software--and there are a couple of paid versions, depending on what kind of income you are entering.   Or...you could purchase the desktop download software to use on a full PC or Mac and pay a one-time download fee to prepare and e-file multiple returns, with the only additional fee being the optional state e-file fee (you can mail the state for free).         ONLINE 2024 https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/   DOWNLOAD (This requires a full PC or Mac—-cannot be used on a mobile device)   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/   You can also purchase the desktop download from various retailers such as Costco, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, Sam’s Club, etc. etc. etc.   This link Where can I obtain authentic TurboTax software? has a list of authorized TurboTax resellers.   When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return.  You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return.            If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any extra forms or schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.       TurboTax Online: Important Details about Filing Simple Form 1040 Returns If you have a simple Form 1040 return only (no forms or schedules except as needed to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or student loan interest), you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic at the listed price. After filing my 2024 Federal and state returns and receiving both refund checks I received a corrected 1099-B from my brokerage firm's investment fund which adjusted the cost basis of several stock sales transactions. It resulted in and increase of LT Capital gain of $330 and Taxable Income and Federal Tax due of $49 and State tax of $12. Aside from the 1040-X for Federal, the State's AMD form and an explanation of the reason for the amended returns, what other forms do I need to attach to the Amended returns? Also, am I subject to any interest or penalty even though this issued was not my fault? Thanks for any input and guidance.
