Yes this is a serious bug and deficiency in TT. I don't need TT to actually do the currency conversion but the imported T5008 should not toss away box 13, because then when I look at it in TT, there is nothing to tell me that the particular T5008 is in a foreign currency and it looks just like all my Canadian ones. I need to know which T5008's I have to edit to put in exchange rates to convert both the book value (which would have occurred at a different date and f/x than the proceeds value) and the proceeds value.   This bug has existed for years and should be fixed. Crazy that I spend on this s/w and an important issue like this is neglected. Probably next year I will switch to different s/w.

if you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund then the banking information on the tax form is the information to send your refund to the third party bank.  That bank gets your refund first from the IRS.  They take out your TurboTax fees and send the rest to you---and that bank has YOUR direct deposit information.   When you choose "refund processing" your refund goes from the IRS to the third party bank.  The third party bank takes out your TurboTax fees, takes out its $40 refund processing fee ($45 in CA) and sends the rest of the federal refund to your account.  The third party bank does not handle your state refund at all.  The state refund is sent to you separately by your state.   If your refund ---  minus all the fees--- is less than you expected----first you need to determine if the IRS reduced your refund for back taxes, child support, spousal support, etc. because when the IRS reduces your refund it takes them a few weeks to send you the letter that explains why your refund was reduced     How can I see my TurboTax  fees?    https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   What is Refund Processing Service?         Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC  (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.    You can contact them SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com

TurboTax gets no information from the IRS after you file your return. You can track your refund on the IRS and state refund sites.   Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.   TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.   You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst

If you use TurboTax Online, the software will take your answers to the questions it asks, and then enter that data into the CRA forms for you.   If you are a Canadian Resident, then at the beginning of your return you'll pick a province and then be asked if you are a Factual Resident or a Deemed Resident.   This Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) page can help you determine if you are a resident for tax purposes: Determining your residency status

For context, for 2023, I contributed $6500 to my IRA and performed the backdoor roth conversion in April 2024 before tax day. And for 2024 I contributed $7000 and performed the conversion in April 2025 before tax day.   I am using the Online version. I researched the instructions on how to enter the backdoor roth and followed the below. I have bolded places I entered info and had questions/differing experiences:   I had the most differing experience from the instructions below: Step 1:  Enter the Non-Deductible Contribution to a Traditional IRA Go to the Traditional IRA and Roth IRA screen, check the Traditional IRA box and select Continue. On the Is This a Repayment of a Retirement Distribution? screen, select No. On the Tell Us How Much You Contributed screen, enter the amount contributed and select Continue. NOTE: For total 2024 contribution: I PUT $7000 (should this be $6500? NOTE: For contributions for 2024 that were contributed between Jan 1, 2025 and April 2025, I put $7000 On the Did You Change Your Mind? screen, select No, then answer the questions on the following screens. **** I DID NOT HAVE THIS SCREEN OR OPTIONS**** When you reach the Choose Not to Deduct IRA Contributions screen: Select Yes, make part of my IRA contribution nondeductible. Enter the amount you contributed. Select Continue. Note: If none of your contribution can be deducted, you won't see the option to make part of it nondeductible. Instead, you'll see the message Income Too High To Deduct an IRA Contribution, and the full amount of your contribution will automatically be nondeductible. ** I was asked if i have any excess IRA Contributions before 2024 - I said no ** I was asked if there were any nondeductible contributions to my IRA tracked in form 8606 - I said YES ** I was asked for my IRA Basis from form 8606 from my 2023 return as of Dec 31st, 2023 - I entered 0 ** I was asked the value of my traditional IRA on Dec 31, 2024 - I entered 0 ** A screen came up saying "Income Too High To Deduct an IRA Contribution"       6. On the Your IRA Deduction Summary screen, review the info and select Continue.   No issues with Step 2 below, was able to follow as is: Step 2:  Enter the Conversion from a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA Go to Wages & Income. On the Your income and expenses screen, locate and select the Retirement Plans and Social Security section, then select Start or Revisit next to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R). Answer Yes to Did you get a 1099-R in 2024?, then Continue. If you land on the screen Review your 1099-R info select Add another 1099-R. Select how you want to enter your 1099-R and follow the instructions. Answer the questions on the following screens, until you reach Tell us if you moved the money through a rollover or conversion. Select I converted some or all of it to a Roth IRA and Continue. Next, select Yes, all of this money was converted to a Roth IRA. Continue answering questions until you reach the screen Review your 1099-R info.   When I review my 1040, these are what I am seeing as the inputs 4a IRA distributions: 6500 4b taxable amount: 6500   I believe taxable amount should be $0. But I cannot get it to swap to $0 so I am getting taxed on the backdoor roth. Hoping someone can help me resolve this!
I used Nefile for my return, but don't know if I can Netfile any more returns with the TurboTax Basic version. Is there another version that allows more than one return to be Netfiled?

The File option in any version of TurboTax should offer the choice to file your state return by mail. See the instructions below for your specific version: How do I file my return by mail?   Be sure to check the box for File by Mail and look for "Print my state to file by mail." These directions apply after you have already submitted your Federal return. Even though the heading may state E-file Federal Tax, still check the File by mail circle.

My mother put her home in a trust, when she passed in 2019 there was a life estate clause in the trust that gave her husband a life esate in the home as long as he lived.  Her husband died in 2024.  Question is the FMV (setup basis) calculated upon my moms death (grantor) in 2019 or at the termination of the life estate ( the passing of her husband) in 2024?
