Box 14 can be for many things.   Your employer can put anything they want in 14.   What description is in your W2 box 14?   What is it for?

I am not sure what Box 14 is for? It wants me to select a Category and I am not sure what to select.

Yes, here's what might have happened. If you recorded the two 1098's separately, the software may have mistakenly understood that you had two different loans totaling a much higher amount.    The IRS will calculate an "Average Balance" by looking at the principal reported on your 1098s. If two 1098 forms are reported on your tax return, the IRS doesn't distinguish that they are the same loan. It assumes your debt is more than $750,000 and automatically limits your deduction—often at a much lower amount than the $40,000 you paid.   My suggestion is to respond to the notice by mailing a brief statement to the address on the notice. Include both copies of both 1098's and inform them you changed lenders and that the two 1098's issued are for the same loan. Further state that your total principal never exceeded $750K and that you are entitled to the full interest amount of $40,000.    @user17689512664

I think I may have figured out what might have caused it.  My user profile in Win11 was corrupted.  When I had signed back into Win11, it apparently started creating a new profile.  I think when I tried to log back into TT, it saw the "new" profile and treated it as the 2nd install.  Since then, I have not had any further issues.  I don't think I will need all 5 install seats, but if so, I will contact Inuit and see if they can set it back 1. As for now, I will just continue assuming all good going forward.  thanks

@BritInVA  What I understand from your post is  that you claimed  Foreign Tax Credit on your US return ( form 1116 ) based  on taxes paid to the UK  for the  2024 tax return.  Now there has been an adjustment of the UK tax burden.  Your only option is to "Amend" your 2024 tax return to recognize  the new situation.  Note that because  of the downward adjustment of the claimed  FT amount on your return, you may end up having to pay more to the US after amendment. If you use  windows/ desktop version of  TurboTax --   1.you have to go into the 2024  software, recreate the 2024 return  ( i.e. recreate the filed return ); 2. Then Tell 2024 TurboTax that you want to amend this return --- remember to create a new copy ( "As-Amended " ) , now use this copy to effect the amendment process --- you should end up with a 1040-X  ( a summary ) and an update 1040.; 3. File this -- 1040-X and 1040  -- it shoudl say Amended on top of first page.;  4. Include any payments due.  Note that there is generally no need to amend the state return since  FTC was never there.   Is there more I can do for you ?

Your 2025 e-file is sitting in "pending" on a server.  The IRS does not have it yet.   TurboTax allowed you to e-file —- and now your return is in pending.   MY RETURN IS IN PENDING—what does that mean?   You will not get any information from the IRS refund site while your return is in pending.  The IRS does not have your return yet.   Did you e-file?  Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”  If so, your return is now in “pending” on a server.  Do not try to change anything while your return is in pending. On January  26  the IRS will begin to accept/reject e-files.  The IRS accepts a FEW returns in test batches ahead of January 26—-but that is very random.   Watch your emails—including your spam folder—for the notice about whether your e-file has been accepted or rejected.  If your return is rejected you will be able to make corrections before re-filing.   If the return you e-filed is accepted you will have to wait until it has been fully processed and then amend it to fix any mistakes or omissions.  It has been taking the IRS four to six months—sometimes longer—to process amended returns.   If you e-filed your state return there will be another email later that tells you if the state was accepted or rejected.   WARNING:   Do not try to change anything on your return while it is pending.   https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-first-day-of-2026-filing-season-online-tools-and-

Or do you need to amend a past year return?      Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-already-filed/L4VjJ9BA2_US_en_US?uid=m76mq6z2       Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

2025?   You cannot amend 2025 yet.   Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my return now?”  If you did that, you cannot do anything to fix it yet.  You have to wait for the email that tells you if your return was accepted or rejected.   Since the IRS will not begin to accept/reject returns until January 26, you are going to be waiting in “pending” for awhile.  Your return is sitting on a server, where you cannot fix  it or get it back.   You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.     If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February,  But wait until your return has been processed.
I can do that ? What proof would I have to show
